  1. MKV Toyota Supra Photoshops & Renders based on FT-1 & Prototypes

Some cars I find I can't judge properly from renderings or photos, no matter how accurate they are. Take the new collapsible hardtop Miata - it looked very awkward to me from some angles in photos, but when I test drove it I thought it looked stunning.
  2. Toyota Supra to be launched in 2019 under Gazoo performance brand GR / GRMN related topics

BBC Canada replayed the Top Gear episode tonight that tested the Clio that could make your car sound (in the cabin) like anything from a 50s Renault to a GT-R. Good for a laugh, sounds semi-realistic, but doesn't hold a candle to the real thing. I'd be happy (OK, maybe just willing) to pay $5k...
  3. Toyota Supra to be launched in 2019 under Gazoo performance brand GR / GRMN related topics

For me, it's about the sound - no 4 banger I have heard sounds that great, even with aftermarket stuff tacked on (although an STI with its UEL headers isn't too bad). You can make a 4 sound OK in the cabin by adding Forza-type synthetic engine notes through the speakers, but nooooo thanks...
  4. Wish List for the new Supra / Must Have Futures and Options!

With the R&D costs they've incurred, Toyota will want to sell as many Supras as it can - there is no way they are going to limit their market by not making some "luxury" and safety options available, or by going with a unimodal suspension (except as an option or special edition). Hell even a...
  5. MKV Toyota Supra Photoshops & Renders based on FT-1 & Prototypes

Thanks for posting. Overall proportions look good, but if this is the best approximation to date of the real thing it's a bit of a letdown IMO. The hood looks a bit too bulbous and lacking in character, and the front fascia is also too vanilla and somehow looks dated already - maybe because it's...
  6. MKV Toyota Supra Photoshops & Renders based on FT-1 & Prototypes

The back end and side profile on this look terrific - a very well integrated design with a nice flow. I doubt that gash on the front fender will make it to production - a good thing IMO. The height of the hood and fender above and behind the front wheels looks too high, needs to lose a good 2-3...
  7. MKV Toyota Supra Photoshops & Renders based on FT-1 & Prototypes

This. Even allowing for some artistic license with the paint contrasts here there are too many sharp creases and overall it looks like a rendering some teenage boy's dreamed up. The badging on the back of the spoiler looks ridiculous.
  8. MKV Toyota Supra Photoshops & Renders based on FT-1 & Prototypes

Chrysler did make it work on the Viper.... but from what's out there so far the Supra version isn't as appealing. Early days of course.
  9. Toyota Supra to be launched in 2019 under Gazoo performance brand GR / GRMN related topics

Not saying it will happen in this case, but sometimes lower-level models come to Canada but not the States - for example, for many years we got a 320i, a model that only came to the States very recently. I'm not convinced Toyota can afford to only sell the car in the upper-tier (Cayman/Vette)...
  10. MKV Toyota Supra Photoshops & Renders based on FT-1 & Prototypes

Looks muscular - but I am still not convinced the double-bubble roof is going to work well visually. And the exhaust tips need to be bigger, they are too small for a car of this size, they look like they were lifted from a Miata.
  11. Wish List for the new Supra / Must Have Futures and Options!

^ With you on the HUD to some extent - found it distracting when driving a Camaro, and turned it off - but you might get used to it over time. Fix-a-flat is useless if your tire takes any significant damage beyond a small nail puncture, I'll take the weight penalty for the peace of mind...
  12. Toyota Supra to be launched in 2019 under Gazoo performance brand GR / GRMN related topics

Agree that the writer's estimates are wishful thinking, but there are limits to how high Toyota can press the pricing on the lower powered version especially. The Supra name may mean a lot to some forum members here but it's going to be of little significance to most potential buyers and won't...
  13. Wish List for the new Supra / Must Have Futures and Options!

Someone mentioned that the Supra's options (and presumably packages/trim levels) have yet to be set, which brings up a question - what features and options would you like this car to have? Top of my list: for the manual transmission - auto rev-matching (with the ability to easily turn it on or...
  14. MKV Toyota Supra Photoshops & Renders based on FT-1 & Prototypes

Just a slight difference in side mirror size here..... I know it may spoil the appearance of the car a bit, but I wish we got those honkin' big Euro spec mirrors in North America. This car is going to have big fat blind spots.
  15. Let's talk about reliability

IIRC CR does not generate reliability ratings for a car when the number of reports it receives on that car is judged to be too low for adequate statistical reliability. Possibly not enough CR readers are Porsche owners to generate useful data?
  16. Toyota Supra to be launched in 2019 under Gazoo performance brand GR / GRMN related topics

Is a 750 hp Vette really the Supra's competition? I very much doubt it, from all indications here and elsewhere the Supra's power output is going to be in the 280 (Spec B) - 400 hp (Spec A) range. Who would buy a $90+k Supra? The market would be tiny.
  17. 2019 Toyota Supra Prototype Reveals Production Intent Design/Parts

You're right, I went back and checked - memory fail, I had been looking at the Z4s running on the RIng and commented on these earlier, so my comments here were about the wrong car lol - sorry. The second Z4 in that vid did appear to have quad tips.
  18. 2019 Toyota Supra Prototype Reveals Production Intent Design/Parts

Well it's hard to be absolutely certain due to distance and resolution but when I froze and zoomed in on the second car in the video (there are definitely 2 cars, different license plates) it looked to be to be a quad. The first car was certainly a dual.
  19. 2019 Toyota Supra Prototype Reveals Production Intent Design/Parts

The number of exhaust tips could also be a clue - the most recent Ring video had both dual and quad-tipped prototypes on track, and they sounded quite different.
  20. New Toyota Supra rumored to get Toyota twin turbo V6 engine

So 3174 lbs, 385 hp - sounds feasible - how recent is this report? I assume that weight is for the hi-po model - the other version should be around 3050 assuming they go with a lighter 4 cylinder motor. Wonder if they are going for a 50/50 weight distribution - BMW usually does. Perfect length...
