Dash cams with internal batteries don’t do well in hot climates; batteries can explode. Better cameras use capacitors as they can withstand high temperatures. BkackVue, Thinkware, and probably others, make backup batteries specifically for parking mode.

Many people like BlackVue cameras. I have the 2-chan Thinkware U1000 in my Supra, and a Viofo A129 in my wife’s car. I am happy with both.

Not as far as I know. BimmerLink will allow you to open the exhaust valve but you have to have the dongle connected and the app running; in other words, it doesn’t program the ECU.
