Appreciate all the feedback. I went for an hour-long drive then contorted under the car with a mirror and fortunately didnāt see any signs of a leak. I did torque it to spec so hopefully that helps either way.
Iāll take a closer look in a year at the next oil change and see what I find ?.
If that is the case it shall stay there until the next oil change because Iām not dropping 7 quarts of oil to find out . Hopefully it wonāt leak but if it does then Iāll deal with it.
Was the drain plug seemingly only hand tight for you all as well?
That is interesting! I didnāt notice anything around the oil pan but I probably shouldāve looked a bit closer. The drain plug itself was barely torqued on so I would be kind of surprised if the washer was stuck to the pan, but who knows.
Condition Based Servicing - yep, the maintenance light. It is indeed a feature on BimmerLink. I thought I posted an update on the other thread where we were discussing this when BimmerLink added the feature, apologies if I did not.
Just did my first oil change on my ā21 supra. Went fairly well including resetting the CBS via BimmerLink.
I think Iād read about this on here somewhere, but my factory drain plug had no crush washer on it. I used the copper washer from the kit when replacing the plug, but sort of surprised...
Race ramps has extenders available to lessen the angle. The part of the bumper that it almost touches is a soft rubber material, so I think even if it did hit wouldnāt cause any sort of damage. The worst that would happen is it would move the ramp forward.
Thanks. Iām definitely puzzled, unless you have an aftermarket lip Iām not sure how the yardstick test I did could be so far off. I guess Iāll see when the ramps arrive.
BimmerLink released an iOS update today with service reset capability. I havenāt hit break in/changed my oil yet, but hopefully someone can give it a try and post back.
MPSS (and in general, max performance summer tires) should not be used under 40-45F. The compound simply isnāt designed for colder weather.
Although not identical as there are many variations made by Michelin for OEMs, there was a bulletin for the Super Sport ZP on Corvettes due to the tread...
There are very few oils with the C5 and LL17FE+ specs. Toyota GR, BMW TPT, Liqui Moly TopTec 6600, and Motul 8100 have the appropriate certs. I havenāt found any others yet.
I personally ordered a bunch of BMW TPT from FCP Euro.
@puzzled Found your post while searching for information about the Rennstands. Are you able to use them without having to first put your car on ramps?
Doing a quick measurement thereās only about 5 inches of clearance on the side skirt, and my floor jack requires 3 1/2 inches. Not much room to...
Quick update: I emailed the developers for BimmerLink (they also make BimmerCode) and they plan to add Service Reset capability to the iOS application within the next few weeks. No exact date but that sounds promising.
I think itās already available for the Android version as itās advertised...
Yeah, sorry I shouldāve specified that I was referring to reset via the Combination Meter (trip button). Dealers with ISTA can reset it regardless of the mileage or time.
I also emailed Autel and Launch, which are two of the largest aftermarket diagnostic tool makers. They donāt have the Supra...
Iām wondering if the minimum mileage to allow for reset is >1000. One of the Supra oil change videos on YouTube shows the odometer with right under 2000 miles.
Iāll check once I roll over 1000 and update.
I did some Googling and found information that older BMWs with CBS require a minimum 20% of the total service mileage to have passed before allowing reset via the combination meter (trip button), although Iām not sure thatās true for the Supra/modern CBS. Iām surprised the time passing doesnāt...
@liarskorner Were you able to reset the oil service light?
I was planning on changing mine at 1200 miles after the break in period, but it is not due until July and is showing the āoil change impossibleā message. Just want to see if it did work for you as soon as you hit the 12 month mark.
