  1. Oil level not reading correctly and whining noise coming from the engine ?

100%. I loosely referred to this info being North America focused in one of my earlier responses, but I should have reiterated it for good measure. (Get it? Measure. I’ll see myself out). Great info. It’s interesting how much the issue varies. What is the production date of your car? @kern417...
  2. Oil level not reading correctly and whining noise coming from the engine ?

Let me guess… level measure failure and high pressure (if you had access to a scan tool)? :( Edit: If you happen to know the production date of your car that would be interesting. Regardless, it’s anecdotal data gathering unless/until BMW produces a SIB outlining a manufacturing date range for...
  3. Oil level not reading correctly and whining noise coming from the engine ?

There are 3 overarching generations of B58 categorized as B58, B58TU, and B58TU2. The first generation B58 was produced for the F-chassis and the TU began with the G-chassis. Both the 2-port (B58B30C) and 6-port (B58B30O1) in the Supra are B58TU/2nd generation. The TU2 is now in production for...
  4. Oil level not reading correctly and whining noise coming from the engine ?

The 2020 and 2021 Supra have different B58 variants in North America, but both are B58TU. “TU” refers to a generation of engines and not a specific model. The oil pump failure is also a problem for the M340i which has the same variant (B58B30O1) as the 2021+ Supra. Observationally, the oil pump...
  5. Oil level not reading correctly and whining noise coming from the engine ?

Haha good point, but I imagine if anything it’s the temperature cycling that would be problematic for plastic (but that is… very much an uneducated guess).
  6. Oil level not reading correctly and whining noise coming from the engine ?

Definitely the oil pump. How many miles and has the car always been in California? (I’ve seen some comments that there may be a correlation with cold weather, but nothing tangible).
  7. Supra DCM Update Documentation (incl. notes on Nav Blue Screen)

To help paint as accurate of picture as possible, I suggest noting your prior I-level. For example, you mentioned as of 2024 it is no longer possible to disable start/stop. That (reportedly - between here and BMW forums) began with 03/2023 in the US, thus implying you likely jumped from a...
  8. RECALL - Data Communication Module (DCM) Update

Ah! That may be it - having the car coded to start in Sport Mode will simultaneously disable start/stop. If you want to do an experiment (you know, for science) it would be interesting to code the car to start in Comfort and see if Start/Stop Memory or deactivation still works. I'm guessing it...
  9. RECALL - Data Communication Module (DCM) Update

    It’s not a recall, it’s a service campaign :).
  10. RECALL - Data Communication Module (DCM) Update

Really? I would *love* to be wrong on this - it’s been all over the BMW forums as well. Do you have memory enabled (or disabling of start/stop) and the car still starts in comfort mode?
  11. RECALL - Data Communication Module (DCM) Update

As of 3/2023 i-level It is not possible to code memory or disable auto start stop. This spans across all BMWs in the US (other markets may differ).
  12. Supra DCM Update Documentation (incl. notes on Nav Blue Screen)

Not that we need yet another thread on the DCM update, but some of the others have become rather..messy, and I wanted to have this information accessible for everyone. If it's redundant, a mod is welcome to delete the post. First, this is not a (safety) recall, it is a Service Campaign...
  13. Any interest in guide to doing ISTEP update yourself?

Are you referring to the recent DCM campaign? If so, that is not a recall, it’s a service campaign. I’m asking about ISTA for unrelated reasons and plan to remain on 03/2022 software in perpetuity.
  14. Any interest in guide to doing ISTEP update yourself?

Thank you both. Time to buy a cheap windows laptop.
  15. Any interest in guide to doing ISTEP update yourself?

Awesome info. Is your Win11 Home or Pro edition?
  16. Any interest in guide to doing ISTEP update yourself?

For anyone who has successfully installed Techstream and ISTA on Windows 11, are you running Home or Professional? I ask because the “official” requirements from Toyota and BMW list Windows 10 Professional, but obviously Windows 11 does work (I believe @razorlab mentioned as such a few pages...
  17. Brakes releasing slowly after coming to a stop

The ZF8 is capable of Neutral Idle Control which is effectively decoupling (oversimplification/not technically accurate) the transmission while in drive, at a stop, with the brakes applied. I haven’t found details on how this is programmed for the Supra. I notice the behavior in Normal mode...
  18. Oil maintenance reset light “Impossible”

Yep, I use BimmerLink to reset the oil maintenance interval each year as I don’t clear enough miles to do it via the Kombi. Works great.
  19. Impossible Engine/Oil Light Reset

BimmerLink allows you to reset the CBS. I have to do it that way as I do not put enough miles on the car to allow reset via the cluster.
