Finally received my replacement knob/boot yesterday. About a 45 second swap with no tools.
The part number I found was correct for the smooth-leather version (I wanted to get rid of the alcantara one from day one.)
Thanks, I will give this a shot.
Like others have reported, the charger is worse than useless. On my iPhone it just overheats it without actually charging.
I think what we're talking about is a matter of strategy/programming, not maintenance. Once you're moving the shifts between gears are imperceptible.
If you're at a dead stop and you take your foot off the brake, there will be a slight pause, then it will use the clutch and apply some throttle...
VW DSG is very weird. I dislike all autos, but I really don't like how that one acts at low speeds. The braking is weird too, as soon as you touch the brake I think it opens the clutch, so you lurch to a stop.
I'd have to agree with this, though I haven't really borne the idea out, I've noticed the engine revs do weird things when you clutch in/out while in neutral. Seems a lot like anti-stall.
When you install it, don't pull out the brown plunger on the end. I found some instructions that say to do that, and it's dumb. There's a spring inside that forces it to extend fully (preload on the clutch is my guess) and it's "locked" closed for shipping. Pulling it out will just introduce...
I would wager that it's almost the other way around. It's difficult enough to heel-toe and rev match manually in this car, that in stock form having the rev-match turned on is probably going to feel like a requirement to most people.
BMW looked at a problem they created, and decided to gloss...
It's not hard, it never really was. It's engaging and rewarding.
You're awfully focused on the "slow" aspect. Which is the worst argument. A Miata is a blast to drive on a track, and it's woefully slow no matter what transmission you equip it with. What does one get out of track driving...
This is not hard to figure out.
Do a search for new vehicles with manuals in Europe and what do you see? Vans, economy cars, wagon/estate cars. Just boring, run of the mill stuff. And a LOT of it.
These people are not heel-toeing their way around Spa, they're driving to work.
Do the same...
I'm from the US and I started out driving nothing but manuals. Manual tractors, in fact. One brake pedal for each rear wheel! A lot to manage at the age of 12, but I figured it out.
The reason the Europeans always get this wrong about American manual drivers is that people from Europe...
It has an effect any time you need to quickly find the bite point. 1-2 shift, heel-toe and rev matching, hill starts, aggressive launches.
Coming from a car without the CDV, it was immediately noticeable that something was goofy with the clutch engagement, but I didn't know what. It was just...
Safelite strikes again! They just basically destroyed the wiper system on my buddy's VW. All it does is grind now.
They also did a real hack job on the back glass in my Tacoma a few years back. Did a number on the paint and the interior panels.
Look to the horizon and you will see the rapidly approaching death of fun, engaging cars. Electrification, safety gizmos, autonomous driving, dealerships, and uneducated drivers are all responsible for doing the killing.
The crop of cars we have right now with manual transmissions are the very...
Try driving away in first without applying any throttle (might help to be pointing slightly downhill.) Does the parking brake release?
If that works, try doing it again but leave it in neutral.
It also functions the same way if you're holding down the brake pedal while you apply the parking brake, but for the purpose of giving concise instructions this was easier and gives the same effect.
Did you follow these steps exactly? Also make sure the doors are closed.
Engine running, transmission in neutral.
Set parking brake.
Hold clutch pedal in.
Touch brake pedal and release.
Touch throttle pedal and release.
Wait ten seconds or so.
Release clutch pedal.
ETA: It's the system that...
