This is a big deal. Not just for big hp applications but for improving even lightly tuned cars’ driveability and performance. Just changing shift points makes a big difference in those two categories.
I’m hoping additional clamping pressure improves reliability and/or the limit where a trans...
I think at the new (or newish) price point of the Supra, there are other platforms for track duty that have more aftermarket support and/or proven track performance/reliability.
We’ll definitely see more track usage as the platform ages and track reputation spreads.
You can typically get an OTS tune with the Ecutek programming kit and license for <$1100 to get you started.
Do you plan on getting more than one tune throughout your build process (OTS or Custom)? If so, you may want to consider total tuning costs over the life of your build. The difference...
Did you unplug it and plug it back in? Easy troubleshooting step. I used compressed air to blow out the ecu and connectors when reconnecting to ensure solid contacts. Maybe try that, too.
Yeah, I like the stock wheels. There are a lot of great features to them. They look good on G20s, actually. But they are stock (on the Supra), so it’s not the look that “I” would go for on my build.
Powder coated black would be my approach if I didn’t want to spend my budget on aftermarket wheels.
Just curious because I was going to say that I think you’d like the wrap a lot more if the wheels complemented it. A matte/satin/gloss black could really transform the look instead of the two tone wheels on that body color.
The previous owner seemed to agree with that sentiment.
There are...
Would not trade, but I’m keeping my eye on used MT new Zs and used MT Supras for future drift projects. By that time, the weaknesses in each platform should be much more apparent. Also hoping that the used market is reasonable in 3-5 years. (But not now, want to keep the value of my ZF8 Supra up...
Admittedly, I haven’t owned a color that really shows chips like black.
This was also a used purchase for me that would have required some touch up even before applying PPF (and I know it’s not a long term car). If I were to buy something higher end and new (and/or a longer term car), it would...
Definitely a beginner. Just one track day (~5 sessions) in my FWD GTI, and my RWD experience is limited to drifting - not something I want to do at speed on a circuit in my Supra! (Yet…)
Who did you run with?
How did the brakes hold up? I don’t want to fear fade, but I don’t want race car squeal either once I’m back on the street.
I hear rotors are fine. Fluid is recommended (no problem).
Are there any pads that can are geared for the street but can handle double duty (stock ok or not really recommended)? I absolutely do not want race car squeaks.
I get that the M3/M4 are getting bigger, but 500hp/AWD/3800lbs is basically the GT-R formula with modern creature comforts and tech. That’s why the G80/G82 still appeals to me.
I was quoted $2,100 for all the high impact areas. Decided that I’d lose less than on depreciation with whatever road rash I get.
PPF can get beat up, too, so you still see some road rash in the meantime even if you’re sparing the car’s paint for later.
Not knocking those who get it, but just...
In real life, it’s all positive. Online, you’ll encounter a relatively vocal crowd comprised of people who are definitely not in the market for this vehicle.
I believe you made a recent thread on bimmerpost that I read.
Assuming you end up in a G80/G82 eventually, be sure to give us a...
Actually, I thought about it, and for RHD cars, the volume on the right makes more sense to me. I imagine they just don’t want to build a different wheel for LHD.
I always found volume on the right side to be odd. Prefer it on the left. Also, I like a one-click mute option.
I don’t know why OEMs like the volume on the right. If I was going to use my right hand, I could just get to the volume knob.
Having cruise on the left seems wasteful as I’m...
Also did this. Didn’t get any pics, but these do a good job.
Super cheap on Amazon and appears to be pretty well attached. They can hook onto the seat rails. There are no holes to hook onto, but the seat rails have enough edges and the cargo net has enough tension that it’s not going anywhere...
Thank you! I’m surprised I haven’t seen anyone (on here) with it already.
