This car has been in testing for a long time (drivetrain wise). I've spoken about it before and the BMW insiders also came over and spoke about it as well.
@justbake even posted the VIN numbers from some of the prototypes we had lol.
it was never about misrepresenting numbers; they were simply just reporting them as BMW does.
the car will now make close to ~380whp vs the current ~330whp
It's the same engine that's in the Z4 according to my contact on that side (nothing new as far as what we have heard on here)
Also appears they opted to not do the matte black. I replied to this post a little while back in regards to that and one of the TMS guys hit me up and said they decided...
It's basically the same system, it's just adapted to each platform (again modular TNGA). The one in the Corolla should be very close to/the same as the GR-Y system as far capability.
It's pretty far for sure, but that's more because the Corolla part of the equation is fairly recent.
I was speaking in a broad manner. TRD Japan certainly doesn't carry favor like GR for a multitude of reasons, the main having to do with Akio, but trust me they aren't being phased out anywhere.
It's just a different strategy depending on market, that's why you don't see the Japanese parts...
TRD isn't going anywhere. I dont have the time to explain at length again, but they also have different aims despite the overlap that concerns some.
But that doesn't mean they aren't being reorganized somewhat.
-86: Toyota more or less ran the project and as such is still a very Toyota feeling car given that. Basically Toyota did a large part of the engineering/development and provided a few parts, and Subaru assisted and produces the car and vast majority of the parts. The FA20 engine was also...
Not worth my time to delve int this much further for now, but it's just not the same situation as Gen 1 and not what I was looking for personally.
Reality happens.
It sounded to me like Tada isn't involved or is merely an advisor.
Gen 1 has plenty of Toyota engineering in it, hence why it's Subaru's most reliable model. Also plenty of Toyota parts on the car.
Gen 2 is apparently nearly all Subaru parts and engineering. As in chief engineer is a Subaru employee.
I need (want) a new DD for the US and the EU/JP Yaris would likely never be available, that's why I prefer the Corolla. Anywhere else, I'd buy the Yaris, especially given it's lighter.
But yeah, apparently all Subaru is what I'm hearing for GR86.
Just because I haven't heard of something doesn't mean it isn't happening, but usually news like that would pass around so. Might just be too early for implementation or something...
I looked it up and it seems the rumor is for cars 2 gens away (about what I would expect), so that could be why...
Well, as early as last year I was told it was not happening iirc (maybe it was end of 2018). Then as time passed some of the engineering guys said it was happening and was supposed to be a <2L turbo, but then I read all the news about being the Ascent engine and didn't know what to believe...
It is very possible, at least in regards to the body panels and chassis modifications (spot welding/structural additions etc), but I haven't seen any renderings or had conversations on that.
I'm very excited for this car though (more than I was), especially now that I know GR86 will not be...
