thats kind of what i figured. And if thats what the customer wants, then gtg.
this is why some folks put the money into stand alone ecu’s, and why id really like to see a motec m142 style ecu for these cars. It fixes the lock issue and lets you more easily tune to full kill mode on a daily...
i know. Im just trolling rocksandblues.
that aside, youre 100% correct. Im trying to go back and remember specific cases if it was break in related or if there have been bad batches of piston rings in the past.
I think a Motec system is going to be the answer....yeah its spendy, but theyve shown they can control the rest of the vehicle. The tuning and data logging capabilities are great.
this is the way the market is going to have to go, me thinks.
probably. I wonder how many of them own supras and are eligible?
“Joe, says here youve built 37 racing B58 S52, S54, and S55 engines. Unfortunately, because you don’t own a supra, we cant let you go to the course.“
i think this is spot on.
If the problem is determined to be just the rings, they COULD just do a ring replacement. And the cylinder wall scoring (if present) will tell them if its a cyl wall issue or a ring issue.
if you end up with new rings vs a new motor, i wouldnt sweat it. Theyd have a...
it could go either way, but most likely a new with the corrected motor going to the reman market.
I personally wouldnt mind either way as long as it gets fixed, and Id rather a BMW engine builder who is informed of the current issue be the one addressing an engine problem over a random dealer...
probably a TSB....if they ascertain there is a volume of engines affected. Allows a glide path to correction for affected vehicles without replacing all of them.
it is my guess Toyota will just start replacing motors because it’s cheaper than replacing just pistons/rings. Toyota will subrogate...
oil analysis will tell you if rod bearings are in play.
once they fix your piston ring issue, run a full cycle of oil and get an analysis done at like your 10,000mile change to check rod bearing wear. If oily analysis shows high rod bearing bear, do the same thing on the next one. After 2...
you very well could be right. If the engines arent seeing sufficient load to seat the piston rings correctly, youll get more burn off until they do.
my guess is its either ring gap from being not seated; or a bad batch of rings; or a bad batch of connecting rod bearings.
anyone who has been...
what’s funny is that has you abbreviated it down to RRFPR, 85%+ of people shit talking you wouldnt have a clue what you were talking about.
and the first question all of them ask about their new bro-t00n is “will this void my warranty??”“ or “reflashed and now hav a flat tire!! Wtf!!! T00nuR X...
