At first I was sure I was hearing a four cylinder but kept replaying it and definitely heard the I-6 engine note so I am also of the mind that at least one announcement will be for a final edition Supra MKV with the B58 (possibly modified in a GRMN spec with my fingers crossed??).
Toyota wants...
I highly doubt the Supra MKVI is going to cost $100k+ USD. Maybe an eventual GRMN limited edition will cost that much for all we know but the rest of the model line shouldn't go there.
The core vehicle platform it's being developed from (developed in house according to A70TTR) is also being...
At this point since Toyota has expressed interest in Mazda's inline-six turbo engine for a collaboration I'd expect GR engineers to work it over in some way if they actually use it.
Single turbo or twin turbo depends on a lot I'd think in terms of what kind of response and high end...
Isn't the Supra MKVI supposed to be the one that will take styling cues from the Supra MKIV in its final form?
This GR GT3 / LFR is a different animal, yes...? I certainly looks like a different animal in proportions alone than an MKIV does.
From the manufacturer and engineer point of view I think they're going in on these types of vehicles now because on the global scale they have about a decade within which they can make various kinds of niche ICE or mostly ICE powered vehicles.
They probably see it as seizing the opportunity...
This occurred to me but what a laugh if the very engine we have all been wishing Toyota would make WASN’T a mere Toyota prototype that was “divided from” in order to get the G16E…
…but instead was a series of Mazda I-6 engines which Toyota piggybacked their own R&D onto in order to divide from...
I have known about Mazda’s 3.3L inline-6 for some time now. Both its hybrid and single turbo variants. I’ve seen the SUVs powered by them all over the place.
When they first announced it one of my early thoughts was “so is Toyota going to partner with them and use this engine for a sports...
Interesting. A Toyota-Mazda partnership for a RWD 2-door coupe and/or 4-door sport sedan is what had been hinted at before given Mazda's own development of straight-six engines (including a turbo variant).
Now this makes it even more interesting. Toyota has their own chassis/platform they've...
Great feedback from your own experiences there!! Thank you for detailing that!! Every little nuance has nuggets of insight as to how these types of vehicles feel to those of us who just want them to deliver the goods positively when they are pushed hard.
Yeah, the weight and battery pack...
The "Celica" name being trademarked has been known for a while but if they've also recently trademarked "MR2" then I'm of the belief that we really will see two distinctive models after all.
And that would make far more sense. Even if they share major range topping turbo AWD drivetrains each...
Hah, thanks! I try whenever I write.
They may very well put the Celica name on what will obviously look like an MR2. Hopefully there will be two distinctive cars which share a common drivetrain flopped at different ends respectively.
I think the hybrid systems would be other trim levels in...
Overall I'm seeing so much "MR2" in this evolving concept of theirs (and now its powertrain) that it'll just feel weird if Toyota badges it as a "Celica".
The Celica has always been a higher volume and much more accessible sports coupe than this thing which is shaping up to be the proper...
It has been my snarky assumption that BMW's recent grille-tastic designs have all been the work OF AI
(No, I don't really believe that but honestly it's exactly what I would expect if it were actually so.)
Possibly so... but remember that ALL new models will have some kind of hybrid trim level available from MY2026 onward. We've known that for a few years now. No telling if that will mean EVERY trim level of every model or just one or two (the latter is more likely for GR vehicles).
So maybe...
If none of the new turbo engine variants are used and we instead get basically one of the same engines but in a naturally aspirated tune... that's beginning to sound a lot like the same formula as the old 90's-00's 2.0L 3S-GE BEAMS (which had dual VVT-i and made 210hp).
The 3S-GE BEAMS was...
This makes sense especially considering they're developing at least one 4cyl turbo + hybrid Supra MKVI trim level. It will have some extra weight from the battery pack section after all.
In non-hybrid trim levels with the 2.0L turbo the chassis will be the lightest. IF there is a version with...

Emphasis mine.
What's interesting to me here is that the new performance turbo 2.0L four cylinder engine starts with a "G" designation just like the G16E-GTS 1.6L three cylinder turbo.
So it might be logical to assume...
It definitely sounds like the Toyota GR folks are testing that new 2.0L engine in a transverse MR configuration in a mule chassis to work out the final kinks in it under extreme driving conditions in that layout before doing something similar with it in production in another, newer chassis.
