So luckily I called CEC today. They were still operating under the assumption that I was going to wait for a fix.
I initiated the case for a replacement. Odd the disconnect between the dealer and CEC. I guess they’re really not going to lead with buyback/replacement if they don’t have to...
So I got a call (day 30).
The lights are replaced and they all work, but they can’t clear the error because the body ECU workaround didn’t work. Apparently they were attempting to do something that would allow the old ECU to remain in the car because they still can’t get software onto the...
We’ll get there. It’s premature to start making demands or directing the course of events. Doing so can limit my upside and potentially make things more painful. I’m going to see how (and if) the repair turns out and then assess what needs to happen and what concessions need to be made.
Received a voicemail yesterday late afternoon touching base. Dealer is still working with Toyota Engineering and they’re getting closer. My case handler says we should know a lot more on Monday.
Tuesday is the 30 day mark.
So my case agent contacted me this morning.
Interestingly enough, she says the car may be fixed today if the Toyota Engineering plan is successful. Quite the turn of events but I’ll take a speedy resolution over the previously gloomy prognosis.
As always I’ll keep updating.
Thanks but I have zero paperwork. The car went in and hasn’t left the service bay. Do you think it’s going to be declared a lemon or that they’ll just get me another car?
I can’t imagine they’d want to burn a perfectly good car that they’ll be able to make “new” once the ECU can be flashed.
Service manager called today. Directed me to open a case with Toyota CEC. Once a case agent is assigned they’ll go about finding me a new vehicle. Not sure why he didn’t have me do this last Friday. We’ll see how long it takes. The car will be at the dealer a month on Monday.
I understand you now. My confusion was if you were referring to that design element or the fact that the passenger side has a gap in the hood/body panel.
I know it’s a long thread so you may not have noticed but this happened the first time the car was in rain. Possibly coincidence, possibly...
Not modding mine.
There’s another thing to consider...
My car had been in the shop for 3 weeks and they’re telling me it could be months before they have the computer scantool they need to flash the new body ECU part.
That means they’re getting me a new car and my old one (with only 354...
I hope it’s better than the regular Toyota stuff.
I’m driving a service loaner Camry XSE while my Supra is in the shop. The Camry has red leather interior and at 20,000 miles there are four different shades of red in there. I assume it all matched when it was new but it looks awful now.
Can’t do anything about it. Seems like a corner case that they need to sort out. Bleeding edge early adopters are we.
I’m not thrilled with the logistics of a new vehicle. Will need to swap registration and make sure the county doesn’t have both cars assessed for personal property taxes. Will...
