Alright guys, just got out of the event. My thoughts are as follows:
The car looks great! The size is actually great, def looks bigger/longer than an 86 despite the wheelbase, but smaller and more compact than an MKIV. It's fairly different from other BMWs as far as a lot of the details go, the...
I believe this and the Z are just symptoms of the "all coupe profiles look the same" syndrome. Just like how "Ferrari copied the MKIV design with the 599":popcorn::popcorn:
Wait til you see one IRL, it is a genuinely breathtaking color. Spent so much time looking at it at NYIAS instead of filming other cars. It quite literally changes your perception of "blue" cars.
No more manual in the 3 series. Now even BMW, the last bastion of the manual trans in the US, is officially auto only. Miata will be the last car in the US with a manual, fighting to the very end.
Well, this is interesting. The Z4 engine does not have the same valve cover as the standard B58. Different details and the bolts on the Z4 are in circular wells, as opposed to the ribs on the standard B58. Overall similar design, but not the same. So I'd guess at the very least its a B58TU lol.
Could also be that the Toyota gauges are white until you hit 7000 and then the whole thing turns red? Idk, that one frame of the gauges wasn't much to go off of.
I'm very much hoping this is the case. Certainly would be a smart design as it would save a ton of money since they wouldn't have to redesign any of the accessory components.
Interesting that the motors in the Zupra have the cover extending over the front of the engine as opposed to how it is on a 340i/540i:
Also, the two biggest things for me are:
-The throttle body is at the same upwards angle on both the Z4 and Supra (as opposed to downwards on every other B58)...
The thing with CGI is that it isn't as simple as just pouring CGI instead of aluminum into the same casting. It would require a significant redesign of the entire block structure. Different ribbing, different coolant passages, diff oil galleries, totally diff machining, etc etc. And as such, I...
Looks to be the same as a 340i/standard B58 equipped car. 6500 redline start and 7000 is actual fuel cut. Engine bay however does look strikingly similar to the Supra.
Also, we are indeed getting orange, but perhaps a new matte/semigloss orange...
It is false, we discussed this in another thread a while back. Some people claim BMW, some people claim Mercedes, some people claimed a third party German builder, all of it is incorrect.
Looks to be a Mickey Thompson ET Street R so def drag racing! Had a set of those on one of my old Supra and the sidewalls were so soft, awful for lateral grip, mind-bogglingly great for hooking on the highway.
Lol well, I'm no graphic designer so rendering body kits and stuff is a bit out of my wheelhouse. But you're right, the tuning scene is def going to pick up where the 86 left off. Bodykits, new headlights, taillights, you name it, we'll see it.
