Great question.
I'm planning on doing 10+ track events this Summer and cost is definitely a consideration as I expect to burn through these rotors in no time. Also I ordered from FCP Euro (about an hours drive from my house) so I'll take advantage of their outstanding return policy and return...
Unlike my VW, no you don't have to go to "service mode". The rear calipers need to be spun and compressed. I have found that a careful application of needle nose pliers and a cheap brake piston compressor will get the job done without spending $100 for the actual tool.
Well, at least I'll get to watch you guys on track ??.
I'm hoping SCDA/Mass Tuning will let me drive in the blue/solo group by the end of the season. I'm really trying to get to 10 events this year.
Thanks to @razorlab for the suggestion. I installed the Project-µ Club Racer pads yesterday along with Zimmerman Z-coated rotors. It was pouring outside so I wasn't able to do a proper bedding yet, just a few 70-10 threshold brakes to get the coatings off. I am already very impressed with the...
One of my really close friends drives Palmer with Mass Tuning a lot, and I'd like to give the track a try this year. It'll probably be a little later in the summer though.
@adawine glad you're okay! That's some scary stuff.
I started getting my car ready for track duty with a full brake job. Project Mu pads, Zimmerman rotors, Goodrich SS lines, Castrol SRF fluid, Apex lug nut conversion. I already have the Verus MC brace on the car.
The front pads glued to the...
My wife has the car bug too. We were seriously looking at a lightly used Fiat 124 Spyder Abarth a month ago, like to the point of almost hitting "submit" on Carvana but the interest rate was absolutely outrageous.
Got my ass in gear to start getting her ready for my first real track day in May.
Lots more work to do tomorrow and next weekend, but it's nice to finally get started on this project.
ETA: I got the front and rear pads and rotors changed out. I had some other items I had to assemble for...
I'm excited for you. Just an ECUTEK tune on a 2020 will be a very noticeable increase.
Have you had your brake recall done? You might want to before you tune. You'll probably need to pay ~$500 for a bench unlock because dealership are assholes and will lock your ECU any time they hook it up...
I'm making about 420ish at the wheels with a custom ECUTEK dyno tune on an otherwise stock car, so yeah, it's all about improving the sound.
Also I usually run with the burbles off and I'll keep them off if it means I can get a better exhaust note.
When I'm done with the suspension in my car the Super Turbo is most likely the exhaust I'm going to run. The dB limit at Lime Rock Park is pretty serious. Burbles on the stock exhaust got the attention of the track safety folks the last time I was there.
