Did anyone at the private event get to see the engine? I'm very curious on the orientation of that straight six. Wondering if Toyota used a different upper oil pan and sump system to make the motor sit straight rather than at an angle.
Those who are gonna flame me, please don't get your...
It would be nice to have some “on paper” differentiation, especially keeping inline with previous “A” series chassis’. I have a feeling they will keep that chassis code a A90. The 3JZ may not happen just because the casting on previous gens actually identified the motor as a JZ (i.e., 1JZ, 2JZ...
Jeff, you think so? Why would they advertise the "A90" moniker all over the car only to discard at production? Could the same thing be said about the "Supra" name then?
A70TTR or Guff, still no info on the engine codes? I know so far it's confirmed to be a BMW derived motor, but any info on whether Toyota will use the "JZ" schema on the new motor (i.e., 3JZ)? I ask because since we are getting a continuation of the A series chassis (even though it's shared...
Sure, the RB's have their quirks they are not perfect, just like the 2JZ....but they are not as severe as some of the quirks you will find in say BMW inline engines. I am pretty sure the "major" flaws of the RB's were resolved mid R33 production...they were brought to the attention of Nissan...
Not trying to be rude, but thanks for the history lesson on Aluminum vs Cast Iron materials and how they are utilized in engines....as if I wasn't aware of the various technologies and materials used in today's auto applications.
I am not talking about the pros and cons of aluminum and/or cast...
Man, I love how this forum complains and brings up the exact same crap I complained about in the past. Only I got riddled with bullets from the other members...and they didn’t. Gotta love the hypocrisy...
I wasn't talking about cost of the block, I was saying that the fact that the Nissan Z has an aluminum block vs the BMW iron block doesn't mean anything. Actually, it does....if you ask any reputable tuner shop, they will tell you the BMW cast iron blocks are more susceptible to flexing and...
Yeah like, the Z's all had clear markers all around for the non-North American cars. This included; front turn signals lenses, side markers, and rear taillights.
The R35 GTR has no problems moving along nicely and reliably with an “Alu block!” I’d take my chance with turbo’ing an NA Nissan motor any day over tuning or overboosting a BMW motor....that’s if it’s guaranteed to have a BMW motor since Toyota is so f****n secretive about their beloved A90.
Jeff’s right, the TRD offerings today are equivalent to PepBoys gear. All stick-on vents, muffler tips, and decals. I suppose everyone was expecting real gear like (dare I mention the MKIV again) the JZA80’s TRD LSD, TRD suspension, TRD 3000GT widebody kit, etc... Again, the MKIV has set the...
