^ agreed, I fully expect the GRMN/TRD version to come out a year later.
the car's goals are to have a power level around 400hp +/- and to drop a little more weight
I'd venture to say the price bump will be substantial (~$20k) if Lexus F models are any sort of indication.
BMW was able to apply changes Tada-san recommended to the Z4 in order to make it competitive. Apparently they now have a Z4-Mspec car that keeps up with Supra as far as lap times.
I guess BMW was crazy impressed with the differences Tada's changes made and rightfully so.
What does this mean...
yeah, R35 GTR maintenance is definitely not cheap; my buddy actually sold his CBA because of it even after we all said they have a pretty pricey schedule lol
That's actually part of how Nissan planned to recoup the R&D costs on the original car interestingly enough.
I dont have much...
I don't doubt there will be a new 86 or at least a face-lift with a few more hp, but new chassis development isn't even a thing right now and there are no current plans for such according to Tada.
This question was actually answered directly by him vs another engineer.
However, GR is still...
I'd rather see a new Celica or MR2 successor as well, with the MR2 carrying a huge edge over the former.
They even had the damn concept done and it was a drivable prototype. And bam! Cancelled...
All good arguments that I feel are fairly on point.
The car didnt have great support internally from the get-go (the board was absolutely against building it), then there was the Scion debacle, and ultimately the failure to add power or update the car doomed it further.
If we think of it literally probably not a ton, but once you consider a roof can be the sum of all the parts (pillars, hatch, etc) things get more interesting. The car is also very no frills apparently just like the 86, and since it's actually about the same size then being a similar weight...
Got into an off-topic conversation with the team earlier and asked if a new 86 was being developed since there are all sorts of rumors around that topic, and to my surprise there are zero plans to update the car and it may be discontinued next year or the year after.
Take this as you will and...
^ corvette base model, Ford GT350R, off the top of my head
yep, just 6cylinder car with paddles. apparently this has never changed either from what I heard.
they've been testing the same cars for the same purpose and while there are all sorts of rumors and arguments, the 6cyl car was always...
It was always going to be around that price for the 6cyl car, and being that the 4cyl appears to be non-production at this point thats pretty much just the way of things. It may end up being closer to $50k, but it's still in that range according to the engineer I spoke with.
the GRMN car is...
it's a pretty sure thing just based on the fact that a bunch of high ranking people want it to be called Supra, but there's still a chance it will be called something else if marketing makes a good case for it not being called that.
it's more evident why the car is going to cost $55k now; it's exactly because of those exotic materials, but that said there aren't a ton.
there's one particular spot where they're using most of it and it ends up saving a ton of weight.
Haha, I enjoy discussing it and even though I'm supposed to shut up I'd rather share what I can because in a way I feel like I'm doing some PR for the car and discussing it with the folks that will make it successful, future owners/enthusiasts.
I hope the car is a success.
