We agree that there is internet connectivity right. You connect your phone, phone sends signal, does VIN have CarPlay subscription. Server down or server rejects VIN. Your CarPlay doesn't work. Simple as that...

Like others suggested, I don't think Supra has OTA in the common BMW sense with the iDrive v6... We don't have a software menu, or anything like it. We only get map updates.

I've never had any issues with CarPlay except, which is not CarPlay's fault is on my ancient iPhone 6s, after using it for nav and music for hours and plugged in, screen off, it overheats and maybe memory issues, acts weird, after cool down and restart it's always ok. Same issue if AC is on and...
True and I'm not accepting these as norms, but most non-OTA (iOS update, software update, app updates, Windows update, etc.) are voluntary (mostly, except critical) and given a heads up and even so they're not without issues....
