True. I'm doubtful they would have done anything close to the 2000GT without the basic idea from Yamaha, but they did do a good job of refining it. Which may be similar to the Z4 / Supra.
There's probably nothing to back it up, but I love the image they show there. Looks like it could be a shared platform with the Miata RF, which would be hilarious to add another shared sports car to the lineup, but I really hope they do this one on their own, or at least have a Toyota engine in it.
Mazda's current design language doesn't play well into the rebirth of the sleekness of the RX7, mainly with that front end. I still want it to happen though.

This is what I mean when I say that I think Toyota is targeting the people who don't really know cars, but want a sports car to feel good about themselves or whatever their reasoning is. They know there's a significant market base there that will buy the car, so they add the bloated features...
I saw that this morning too and thought it was quite on point, but I don't think marketing will be swayed that easily.
No matter what they do, the car will sell. Will the 2% of their enthusiast customer base buy them? Maybe not, but people who want to seem like they're cool sports car drivers...
I'm no Nascar expert, but from my 5 minutes of research I think the Camry will still run in the main Cup series at the top level. I believe the Xfinity series is for drivers that haven't worked their way up the ladder or something. So the Supra will run Xfinity and the Camry in Cup. I think...
I mean realistically, if they've designed a strong engine like it sounds like they have, the difference in 350hp and 400hp could be all in the software. Not that they should give out free horsepower, but if they wanted to blow away the competition at $55k, they probably could.
