I can't speak for the size of the operation they have, but I assure you that they tune. There's a lot going on under the hood of the JB4 that would require tuning expertise to even get the device functional. For example, each JB4 model has a predetermined FF curve (wastegate position target...
I think it may be a B58 specific problem though...
I use both OTS maps (Map 3 [+6 add] for 93 oct) and my own (Map6 [+7.5 add] for E30) on my GTI. Both of which are perfectly smooth with near perfect logs. AFAIK, there's no FF/WGDC stuff on the VW platforms though.
Is there any reason they struggle with this platform in particular?
To me, a B58 is a B58. With identical mods, IATs, and fuel, why would someone require different settings? I can't imagine there's much variation between engines.
It doesn't seem like it should be difficult to create a solid...
I haven't but based on people's feedback here, it sounds like their WGDC/FF PID tuning is not great on this platform. Specifically the wastegate adaptation (aka auto-PID tuning) is meh, and I'm aware that Jesse disables it.
I still believe that the more logs they see, the better they can get it...
Totally understand! I'm a mechanical engineer by trade and the PID tuning of the JB4 is right up my alley. No shame to anyone who wants to pay a professional, but just be aware that Burger will do this for free.
Fuel blending is awesome, but if you don't have E85 readily available at stations...
Well, you guys know I like to s***-stir a little bit around here, so here's Terry Burger's response to questioning the lack of Map 6 resources on this forum:
Yes, he's a founder of Burger Tuning and inventor of the JB4 on the BMW platform.
Cheers to these guys for doing free Map 6 tuning for...
BMS has answered my questions: (Thanks Terry!)
Same as GTI, stay under 40 for fuel trims to avoid leaning out.
Supra does not use FOL control, stays at 0.
Boost safety shall be set 2-3 psi above maximum requested boost.
Thanks man! No shame in starting with a Jesse tune and going from there. I have some examples of his map 6 settings for guidance but will be doing the custom tuning/logging myself.
I'd definitely be interested in proper calibration tuning at some point. Maybe my BMW race shop Thunder Bunny...
Appreciate it. I really enjoy JB4 DIY stuff and datalogging, so hopefully we can make the knowledge about it more public.
For obvious reasons, those who are knowledgeable will not be sharing any info.
I'll be posting Datazaps of 93 and E maps soon and when I feel comfortable with this...
BMS got an email about my question too, will share their feedback.
Based on Jesse's earlier comments in the thread, I should be OK if I keep a boost safety for WGDC issues and watch trims carefully for leaning-out issues. I'm not a stranger to Map 6 JB4, just on this platform.
Thread Revive! After fooling around with the JB+ a few months, I've just had a JB4 delivered yesterday.
Since the purpose of this thread was general Map 6 questions, I'll start:
I am looking to shift my Map 6 from a 93 Oct tune to a 93/E30 tune. When adding E, I know I need to watch the fuel...
YTD 1,375? With 500 of those 2023s being A91-MTs, and more than half of that 875 remainder being AT... that would actually make non-A91 MTs more rare than the special edition, by quite a bit.
Sheesh, close call and good reaction time.
Mine were people lazy-cutting their left turns while I'm at the stop sign of that street... Nearly hit me head on
I'm not sure about borrowed time, but I will definitely start paying attention if the many cars making 100+ more wtq than me start blowing up their trans. My personal power goals do not exceed 500 wtq.
Its likely the 443 rating is for the clutch. Who knows about the rest.
I think what Europe has is actually slightly different than US Spec 2020 Supras, which had a B58B30C. I couldn't tell you the difference between those 2 ports though.
Euro Supras get the same engine that is in every 40i BMW(non M-performance). Lucky us for getting the spicy version - but won't...
Isn't it just that the Euro spec is still using the 2 port B58B30M1 variant rather than the US spec 6 port B58B30O1? That and the OPF. They are both TU motors though.
OP should be able to liven up the car quite a bit with a few mods - even without voiding warranty or emissions regulation stuff.
Yep, as far as I know there are several out there with femto-unlocked MT cars with Stage 2 OTS tunes well over 500 lb*ft WTQ. I'm sure some have had to do the clutch though.
FYI - the car makes over 400 WTQ stock, and mine is catless with piggyback - likely 450 WTQ or more. That's well over the...
My car has full frontal Ultimate Plus XPEL + XPEL ceramic coat on top. It looks good as new but I've only had it on ~6 months. Hood stays super clean since water just beads off. Absolutely no blemishes on the front end - the self-healing is no joke.
No kidding lol. My clown horn has already saved me from 2 idiots driving into my car in only 2k miles. Close calls while I was completely still. Sometimes people need to be reminded that they're driving a car and need to look out the windshield occasionally.
No MT offered on NISMO.. Lol, do they think they're a Porsche RS model or something?
Funny for a car that will rarely see the track. At least it looks pretty good imo.
