Doing @tadda's Audio mods, especially the EQ + ASD removal, completely changes the stereo, even without the bass port mods. 15 minutes for the EQ stuff, ASD removal requires Bimmercode, but you're going to need that to fix the display brightness anyway.
It shouldn't be that much. Giant as zip ties to tie two together, wrap in plastic. Should be about $50-60/set of two.
