Looks like Saudi Arabia or something...
Haha it's not Arabic, just regular numbers and letters censored by the photographer. Standard Deutschland plate with the D and the stars.

Oh yeah, that's a torque converter.
@Guff Can you tell how you can tell it sounds or looks like a torque converter. Purely asking from a educational place. I did my research online and for the life of me I can't find an answer on how you can tell just by observation. What should I be listening or looking for?

So sometimes it's tough with these modern torque converter autos, but the key thing is to listen for that fading/gradual engine note change between gears as opposed to the sudden change in pitch. It will sound different to just the sound of an engine coasting down because it will still be at full load. Not sure if that makes sense.

Interesting back to youtube to see if I can hear the difference now that I know what to listen for. Just so we're clear this is a sound I'm listening for under hard acceleration right?

you're listening for the exhaust during gear changes...with a dct the change of sound is almost instantaneous

Which sports cars can I listen to for examples of Torque converters, not sure why this is so hard to find on the internet.

Watch a video of an ISF (an older fast torque converter auto) or something and then watch a video of a 911 with PDK (a fantastic dual clutch), you should be able to hear an audible difference. Then listen to an Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio (The ZF 8speed TC Auto in the Supra) and get confused lol. The ZF auto will sound like either one at different times.

@Guff Thanks for the info, I was actually going to mention that, first I wen to a BMW M3/4 DCT and then Porsche PDK (which is absolutely insane) but as I listen to the Supra it almost sounds the same maybe just a little less instant. Sorry to get too off topic, but I suppose that means TQ w/ the ZF are closing the gap that much more.

Yeah torque converter autos are getting very good. The new 10 speed in the new LC500 is very good too, I hear. Torque converters have the added benefit of also being buttery smooth when they want to, something that dual clutches still have trouble with. Once dual clutches can be as smooth as TC autos, then it's a no brainer to go with a dual clutch.
