Hi everyone, approaching 12k miles at around 700hp for the last 5k. Haven’t noticed any major issues except every now and then the transmission seems to go up or down a gear even when im not touching the shifter. It happens so quickly sometimes I barely notice. Should I be worried?
How is this related to MT? You drive a phantom.

Do you know what the temps are at idle at the (3) stages you just described?
Maybe you are extra perceptive to the feeling because I thought little of it since it goes away after a bit. The following is from this morning. Video was too long to attach I think. I'll crop and try again later and update!

conditions:
  • All Temps in F⁰ due to settings this time around
  • Ambient temp inside garage 57⁰
  • Outdoor temp 37⁰
  • OEM fluids

:O That was fast! Thanks!

Whats surprising to me here is that the trans gets hotter faster than the engine oil temps at idle (131 F vs 109 F) and then takes longer to get up to 220 F while moving around.

I wonder if 150-160 F is warm enough for smooth engagement. I'll try waiting for the 650-700 RPM idle range next time.

Current outdoor temps around my parts are around 25-30 F and are only getting lower in the next few days (10 F is expected for the week after )

I think it is a very apparent lockout. I may be more attentive to it, as I have had issues with it in my prior MT car - but at that time it due to the trans heating up too much at idle lol.

I think he's talking about an auto but just as a heads up, in some regions you can get a manual in phantom duco.
Wasn't phantom discontinued before the manual even released? Only matte color is burnout white.

Yeah it was just a joke… 2am brain thought all the “my car is still working” posts were funny. Reminds me when a neighbor says a package was misdelivered on whatsapp and then the whole neighborhood responds “it’s not here” 🤣

For those with cold shifting weirdness, the time came up to flush/fill the trans in my Tacoma and I replaced the factory fill 75W-90 GL4 (which looked to be in fantastic shape after 75k miles, and almost no metal on the magnetic drain plug) with Redline MT-90. We did my buddy's Tacoma at the same time.

I will say it has never shifted better in the cold, not even the first year I had it back in the winter of 2014-2015. Does great at operating temp as well. I'm pretty happy with it. He's happy with his as well.

I'm not sure what the specified oil is for the Mk5 Supra trans according to Toyota, but it looks like a lot of recent BMW's call for BMW's MTF-LT-5, which is a 75W-80 GL4 oil with some other requirements. Redline makes a 75W-80 GL4 called Redline MTL, but from what I've read over on the BMW forums, a lot of guys have had good experiences with Redline DCTF, which Redline calls out as a suitable replacement for MTF-LT-5 on their site.

Food for thought.

Copper Grey and Matte White. All your "special edition" colours are just standard options here, including that ugly orange. Even Alcantara and tan leather seats can be optioned across the premium (GTS) range. :p

I'm not from the states lol. Canada gets copper grey and matte white as regular colors too.
