Advice on a New Key Fob

I just got myself a 2022 3.0 premium, but they only gave me one key fob. I called the local toyota dealership and they quoted me $1000 for the new key + fob. A quick google search indicated the price should be around $200-350.

Does anyone have insights on where i can go in southern CA to get a key fob replaced for a more reasonable price?

the key is about $270, the transmitter is about $700, i think they refer to the programming as a "master reset" about $200

that's about $1170

to our knowledge, toyota was no longer providing replacement keys. interesting

This is factual as well. Toyota no longer provides or has any keys for this car available. There was a similar thread a couple months ago and I contacted a cousin of mine who is a parts manager at a Toyota dealer and they are unavailable from Toyota

I paid 253 for the transmitter, 102 for the key, and 149 in labor.... for a grand total of $506... and then I waited 6 months for the key to show up!

Thank you for the info. This makes much more sense now. I got 4 quotes roughly in the same ballpark. Toyota will replace the key, but it does require communication with BMW.

Haha i also airtagged my key. I just find it a little sus that the dealership failed to mention they had only one key. Im less worried about losing it than i am someone who has it stealing my new car. Its my baby lol

Confirmed: i called 2 bmw dealerships and theyre saying go through toyota. The toyota dealerships near me will replace the key fob but there is a lead time (they said 4-6 days) and i would need to being it in for programming.

Toyota dealers are clueless. I had the same problem with my car. Only came with 1 key. Toyota did order a key for me but it came from bmw. All packaging and part numbers on it were bmw. Delaer said they needed to program it but when you order the key from bmw it comes preprogrammed to your vin and there is a short sequence you perform on your own with your original key and it syncs up. I got my car in May and my key arrived in July. I synced it to my car in my own garage no dealer needed.

It’s not that complicated…I just YouTube it, program BMW key fob. Make sure you don’t loose your 1 and only key or you have to part out… Took my about 6 months and 1K to receive from a Toyota dealership.

I don't believe the at home process will work with a used fob.
Google bmw key programming. Its something like use your original fob and lock the car. Wait 5 minutes. Unlock the car with original fob then place original fob at least 50 feet away. Now go inside vehicle and hold new fob where a normal key would go in ignition behind steering wheel, hold brake and press start button. Car should start and now key is programmed.

I personally would still try going through bmw with their part number... even if they gave you and unprogrammed key for 250 toyota would charge 200 to program and you'd still be less than 1k.
