There doesn't seem to be any good options on the market right now. Lots of generic "wifi" backup cams that could potentially be re-purposed in this manner, but not really ideal. Especially if you use carplay, given it will already be using the phone's wifi connection.

I've toyed with the idea of building an small arduino based device with a ultrasonic sensor + bluetooth module, with a simple app that could leverage it. Could be a fun summer project.

Yeah, it appears the G29 Z4 uses iDrive 7 while the Supra still uses iDrive 6. However, there are some head units floating around eBay from used or salvaged Supras and the model number shows as NBT EVO (iD6) which is the last version option on the link I shared. Hmmm. Maybe Bimmer-tech goes by VIN and not HU model numbers? Well, either way, $600 is still quite a lot for a front view camera.
