There is always a reason to wait. Next year’s car, iPhone, mattress, etc. will all be better/different/more refined versions of what’s out this year. I knew that when I bought my A90 and the A91 specs had already been announced, but I’ve had a couple of the best summers ever in that car and I’m totally at peace with it. Besides, you can buy 100hp for under $2000 anyway.

(That said, I’m paying MSRP and not a penny more)

Not sure about more reliability.. And some were tunable. @Thraxbert's explanation of what causes oil consumption seems to be bang on.

Until recently though there was no tuning option for the vast majority of 21s and I still know people with the 21s who had engines replaced and I have not heard of that issue with the 20s
