what's this break in you speak of?
its normal for the downpipe to trigger the check engine light in the first 1200 miles.
ignore the light during that period and if the issues persists, contact active autowerke for a replacement.

Does anyone know if fundamentally the break in process is “greening” the cat and fully activating the precious metals and coatings inside the metal cells in the cat, or the car adjusting afr, etc.. to exhaust fumes for efficiently, or a combination of both?

I think I saw in a bimmerpost post for g20 that someone who recently got a replacement was the newer active cat version.
unless the customer approves, i think the replacement should be the same cat you originally ordered

Got this same P0141 maybe a day after install last week, it went away on its own after 2 days or so of driving. Then came back today :/ The shop that installed it said they ordered a new post-cat o2 sensor to replace. However, from this thread here https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2091234 looks like it might not be simply due to bad o2 sensor, but maybe bad cat or something? Can anyone who has gotten the P0141 CEL share if an o2 sensor replacement fixed it? Or it went away on its own and never came back?
FWIW, I have the Active cat version, have put on about 300 miles. I think both times the CEL came on, it was soon after leaving the house, and not after driving for a while. I have been warming up the cats on each drive and waiting until revs drop before backing out of garage.
