Chevron Techron vs Shell V-Power

Shell is rated at most 91 octane here, so I use Chevron which sells a 94 octane. Our manual recommends 93 octane.

I'd read that some enthusiasts in the area (Evo owners, I think?) had more success with Shell, perhaps due to its ethanol content, so I tried interpreting timing logs for one tank's worth of each, but the data was too noisy to make sense of.

Chevron 110 Octane……….



I’ve always used Shell gas because it’s near my house, and I’ve never had problems with Shell gas. As soon as I bought my 2022 GR Supra my neighbor told me about a certain Chevron Station that had 110 Octane Gas.

I’ve never used Chevron gas before so I was interested. I went to the Chevron gas station and filled up with there 93 Octane, and added 2 gallons of there 110 Octane Racing fuel. That’s what is written on there Gas Pump. They call it Racing Fuel. I Call it “Hillbilly-Moonshine”…. It made my stock Supra “Snap-Crackle-Pop” like crazy. Also shifting gears was Super-Quick.. A lot quicker than it was before.

Chevron 110 Octane……….

Yeah, fuel isn't going to have any affect on gear shifting. Pops, maybe. But not the trans.

A lot of us drag racing guys use 114 octane race Ethanol (E1/Ignite Red/VP x98), I can't say I've heard a noticeable difference, but I can surely say the trans behaves the same. That and octane content has nothing to do with transmission tuning.
