I'm trying to install an ambient lighting kit and having trouble finding a 12v constant source to tap into the door. None of the 3 wires in the window switch harness appears to be working (tested with a volt meter) despite YouTube videos stating to "tap into the window switch".

Some of the door puddle light kit DIYs tap into a grey wire in the door harness that's for the outside door handle but that turns off once you close the door.

I've searched on YouTube and written DIYs in BMW groups but each model and year is different as to what gets tapped - very confusing.

Why not just tap into any of the fuse that turns off after 5-6 mins when the car is off?

I've done that already with the dash cam and footwell lighting, but I wanted to avoid running wires through the door harness/boot with the door mounted lights.
