I think this is key! Tons of people are buying wheels for the first time, and aren't exactly sure what they're getting into. I wouldn't have known either. Thanks for the heads up on this thread.Their page said "Custom Drill" but not specifically redrill, and to be fair I wouldn't have known the difference with this being my first experience buying aftermarket wheels. They were $1,335.00 total.
Yeah - crappy manufacturers have a tendency to use vague wording to avoid red flags with new buyers. They make it sound like they have a bunch of wheel blanks laying around to be drilled with custom lug patterns, rather than redrilling a 5x114.3, or something like that, which is what it sounds like they did. Anyway here's what I would do:Their page said "Custom Drill" but not specifically redrill, and to be fair I wouldn't have known the difference with this being my first experience buying aftermarket wheels. Great advice, do this.Yeah - crappy manufacturers have a tendency to use vague wording to avoid red flags with new buyers. They make it sound like they have a bunch of wheel blanks laying around to be drilled with custom lug patterns, rather than redrilling a 5x114.3, or something like that, which is what it sounds like they did. Anyway here's what I would do:
- Try and get something in writing from your tire people, talking about the imbalance due to the redrill pattern.
- Follow their instructions, and send them back.
- If they try and say they're fine, and try to deny a return, follow up with a good old-fashioned dispute on the credit card charge/paypal transaction/whatever. Give excessive information and the document from the tire people.
- Sit back, and let the credit card company/Paypal/whatever handle things for you.
This way, worst case scenario, you're out for shipping, and all of the mounting/balancing/rework, and you can at least recoup that $1335.
Lastly, we are all here to help you with recommendations of places to go, wheels to buy, etc. - at all price points. @Meraki Autoworks seems to be a great place for buying wheels of all shapes, sizes, colors, and price points. I haven't had dealings directly with them (yet), but people seem to have great luck. They openly say that their site is garbage right now, but are incredibly helpful on the forums, and via phone.
One more thing to think about, is this may have caused stress to your lug bolts, or potentially your hubs. When you replace the wheels, you might want to consider that - but I could just be overly cautious, and anyone please feel free to tell me I'm an idiot.
Good luck!
