Designing FT-1 inspired wing- Looking to see if there is demand as well as suggestions for improvement

Top mount for the deck attachment. I would consider this a finished product... just a mount nothing to it really.... this is likely to stay this way.

Pockets drilled out for CNC and removed for excess weight. 3x holes ...2 at 15deg 1 at 25 deg i believe (actually don't remember now ). This bracket weighs roughly 355 grams in 6061 aluminum. So almost 1lbs per side. Bottoms I expect to be around the same, maybe a bit lighter. So we're at around 3.5-4lbs in brackets approx.

The trunk mount will receive the same treatment once I know where the underside bolts will go. The general shape of the bottoms are slightly updated, not pictured though. No big change, just less bulky. 1 bolt hole added at 15 deg, that's all...

Edit: internal support rods also updated to 10mm vs 8mm, not pictured…

Started printing some of the parts.

These are the endplates.
Printed in PET-CF17.

These are pretty much end product.
The actual deck will be printed in the same filament but thicker walls.
The deck will be 7 sections, roughly 15-18 hrs of print time each

in terms of weight, so far were roughly 4kg ish (9-10 lbs) of filament for the deck and roughly 2kg-ish (5-6 lbs) for the mounts and riser… hardware is negligible. Total package should be in the 15 lbs ballpark which according to my understanding ( chatgpt’ing) is about average for a wing

That is yet to be determined...

For that i would need to get over a few hurdles to give a realistic answer.

1. I'd need to gauge real interest, meaning id need a group buy commitment of at least 25.

2. CFD analysis. I want to verify that the design actually produces downforce and how much/ what speeds. No bs marketing. Ill probably look into this after I print and a test fit a 1:1 scale model (this should be done relatively soon, design is like 95% done)

3. then how much material i need to order, and /or what rates i can get from manufacturers for the mounts...POTENTIALLY, the wing deck completely out of carbon fiber. We'll see .... I was planning to offer it as a printed and bonded piece, but if a manu. can do it fully out of cf for a reasonable price, i think that would add a huge premium look to the part and showcase the design beautifully.

4. Packaging + shipping costs.

Long reply short: I dont know yet but that will be updated when I determined that as it is an important consideration

I was able to slant (with minimal design changes) the riser to push the bottom mount closer to the edge of the trunk, effectively giving it more space in case some people may want to run a ducktail in junction. @rwense Let me know what you think.

Also added a secondary more aggressive AoA, adding 4 deg (11 total) the entire deck needs to be uninstalled and repositioned (best I could do given the bolt diameters and already aggressive aoa) but its only 4 bolts.

The top section remained unchanged.

Edit: youll notice the trunk mounts have a bit of an extension to add a bit more surface area. I felt it completed the look and didnt add much material, ducktail should still be able to ( not confirmed, educated guess)

One side is done-ish, just need some hardware to hold the lower brackets on. Sizing and proportions I think will suit the car nicely. Cant wait for the whole thing to be done for test fitting. The main deck will take at least a week to print out. I was going to buy the cf rods and the 3M structural adhesive and test like it would be on a car once the sections are complete.

Looking good so far.... Also Rwense mentioned spacing the lower mounts out to fit a ducktail.... which got me thinking.... maybe ill design one myself once this part of the project is done. It'll have detachable little end pieces so it can fit with the wider, slanted wing... or the straight cut risers

Dude relax, its literally the first print. Designs take iteration.

the real thing wont be printed… just the deck maybe… but even that i might look into cf manufacturing … well how it turns out. Im just want to see in real world size and test fit on an actual car to see how it sits on the trunk. Getting the cleanest, crispest print isn’t the priority, i just need it to dimensionally accurate.

Just wanted to add, that isnt a gap ... the bottom mount sticks inwards a bit to provide more surface area and the "gap" is thew chamfered edge of the riser. The print looks a bit weird because it doesnt reflect very well so all you'd see if a dark spot but the photo ive attached in this edit is what the design actually looks like

Decided to make larger, contour fitted endplates for that want more performance than aesthetics. I personally like the look of the V1 endplates, but sealing off and channeling the air on the underside will produce better results. Cool thing about this style of design is that its very modular.
