Stories like this scare me away from German cars. Another reason why I'm not 100% sold on the Zupra yet.
I would personally rather buy the car I want and pay a premium for a good extended warranty than settle on a car just for the sake of reliability. If Japanese luxury brands were more competitive with German offerings this would be a different story

This is a non issue with a new car. The factory warranty would cover it. If you buy a used one in 5 years, then yes, get a warranty if it's outside the powertrain warranty. But if you buy new, or it's still under the factory 5 year, 60k mile warranty, you're covered.

I want the best of worlds. Wish Toyota would have just stick their V35A under the hood of a reskin LC or RC and call it a day.

That would have been too easy
I guess, surprised that they didn't do so considering past Supras were heavy related to the Soarer/SC.

Anyways, sorry to derail the warranty thread with my pipe dream. Carry on gens. :)

I am a finance manager at Toyota and I got the extended warranty on my Supra. If y’all end up wanting one let me know and I will take care of you price wise. Imo it’s a good option

What about Service Plans? Anybody get offered that and take it? So all scheduled service is paid for via monthly payment which is supposed to cut costs?

In Canada, Toyota Extended Warranty Platinum package includes 3 years of maintenance included so really all your fluid changes. I bought the 7yr 130,000kms extended that yes only tops up after the factory warranties run out but that's two levels of coverage, 4 years extra on top of the basic and another 2 years on the powertrain. Really bumper to bumper minus wear and tear items which is market standard and it's directly with Toyota. Dealer discounted to $2400 CDN for German components is a steal. I came from 14 years of Audi's and Benz ownership and experiencing the repair cost of planned obsolescence on German engineering is a massive piece of mind and savings. On the Benz, warranty ran out literally 3 months later the sensor and components for recognizing smart key and unlocking steering went bad, that was $1800 alone. Then the main screen for the Nav and everything else went, another $1500..the list goes on. It's factory backed service and OEM 'German' parts for non German car pricing. Sells itself.
