I've had the RCTA alert go off a few times, but like others have mentioned, the object/person has to be pretty close. The visual alert for it is basically the same as the parking sensors. I've had the automatic braking kick in numerous times since my parking garage is pretty narrow (apartment). When I back out of the garage, if the angle isn't "perfect", even though I can safely back out without hitting anything, the beeping is almost continuous and it'll kick in.
That part works the same for me. In fact, I’ve turned the rear automated braking off because I got really damn tired of the car SLAMMING the brakes on backing out of my garage with 12 to 18 inches of clearance on each side. What I’m talking about is the cross traffic alert. It’s supposed to alert of a car coming down the road (or aisle if in a parking lot) when you are trying to back out into that road (or aisle). Mine never has. I’ll back out to the end of my drive and just watch cars go by without a peep from it. Our other vehicles alert us when the the oncoming cars are probably around 30 yards away. They all work great. The Supra does nothing.

Add me to the rear traffic not working. One time came within literal inches of someone smacking me while reversing.. nothing.

My girls mom came to stay for a couple weeks so I just found out how close you have to be for emergency braking to work.

My driveway only fits one car, or two cars one in front of the other. Her car is always parked in the driveway when I get back from work so I back it up to fit both. Once it gets to about a foot away from her car the auto breaks slam down. It won’t let me back to any further either lol. Even barely pressing the gas it stops me. I try and the brakes set in by itself.

I have had the rear cross traffic alert and auto braking kick in once. I was backing out of a spot at a local convenience store and a car came through the lot behind me as I was backing out. It's exactly as you would expect....alert beeps and hard sudden braking...scared the shit out of me but prevented a stupid collision.

I too get the park-sense beeping and ghost object alerts while backing out of my garage (thought I hit something the first time it hit the brakes and prevented me from backing up further). This was not the same thing.

I know for sure that the emergency braking systems engage (and on a lower threshold trigger the warnings) based off the rate you are approaching an obstacle. I've had regular front collision warning trigger both at 5mph and at 80mph simply because the rate I was approaching the vehicle in front of me was above some threshold. The car will sound the early collision warning if you are on gas, on neither pedal, braking, or even if the car is braking with adaptive cruise (Often the car is coming to a stop on it's own safely but still triggers the early collision warning, frustrating). I have experienced emergency braking from the front collision system as seen in this video:

In this video the car was driving itself the whole time, so in the beginning the system activated a warning only while it was braking, the second time it auto braked.

In regards to backing up, I've also had it emergency auto brake a few times when backing up, it can happen to me because I back into my driveway and sometimes the sensors see the ramp / higher surface as a wall and brake for me, but if I'm going a bit slower it won't auto brake, it'll just do warnings instead.

I've never seen RTCA, but I don't have any valid scenarios where it should have even been monitoring, let alone intervening.

Thanks for the video. What I’m gathering is that all the safety systems pretty much only trigger when absolutely necessary.

Like I said, I’m used to Lexus’s RCTA where it alerts if there’s a car coming down the lane within a 25 foot radius or a pedestrian is walking across my rear when I’m reversing. Kinda disappointing the Supra doesn’t do this

Hello, I have a 2020 Supra 3.0 and I have the same problem. The dealer (3x) has told me they fixed it or that the system "appears" to work and it never does. I think it might have worked when I got it but after using Bimmercode to turn off the Auto - Stop feature it has not worked since. Carguy 11 says he got his upgraded to the new 2022 software, but when I asked the dealer for that service they refused and said it was only reserved for cars with Technical Service Bulletins.

Most of my cars were Lexuses(Lexi?) and the rear traffic alerts were pretty straight forward. Any car, or pedestrians, coming towards me while I’m backing out, would give me a clear alert.

Since I started daily driving the Supra, 3500 miles in, I have yet to see/hear the cross traffic alerts whilst backing out a parking spot and once almost reversed into a pedestrian behind me.

Just wondering if something’s wrong, or is the bmw system just so sophisticated that it only alerts when absolutely necessary?
I did some stuff in BimmerCode. Could it somehow have messed up some other systems?

Also, I haven’t experienced the emergency braking system while driving yet. I’ve gotten the red car symbol on the HUD and loud beeps plenty of times, but never has it braked for me. And there have been some close calls. Only times I’ve had it emergency brake is when I’m backing into my garage and it detects the 1 inch ledge as an obstacle and scares the shit out of me….

Any insight would be appreciated
Hello! I have had my 2020 Supra in the dealer 3x and they have even replaced the blind spot master module for it ($3500 part cost). I just returned from the dealer and it still does not make an audible alert warning when backing up. Cars just roll by 20 feet from the car and no warning. Ugh!
Let me know if you find a solution. Thanks! Larry
