So somehow my emergency latch got caught in the jam of the hatch. I took it to the dealership and they are saying it wont be covered under warranty. I don’t see how i didn’t ever touch the release latch or anything. I just closed the hatch one day and the next time i went to open it, it wouldn’t. I’ve contacted toyota customer service and they are reaching out to the dealership to get a report on why they wouldn’t cover it etc etc.

Has anyone had this problem? How was it resolved?

Actually, yes. I noticed that often my latch would just buzz, but not open. Sometimes after 3-4 attempts it finally did. At my 1 year service I asked the dealer to fix it. They said the same thing- that the emergency release cable was somehow entangled in the latch. They said they untangled it and it should be OK but I'm not so sure. I tried the release and it seems stuck- does not retract. But we'll see I guess?

Don't that tick you off when dealers have an excuse why NOTHING is covered!?

Any update? I don’t understand how it wasn’t covered under warranty. Isn’t the 3 year 36 bumper to bumper just that? Bumper....to....bumper.

dealer got it opened and had to replace the emergency release cable and the latch mechanism, they didn’t charge me labor but charged me $141 in parts.Honestly im over it. Cars are built so shitty now a days no matter what you buy. And yes they always seem to not want to cover stuffunder warranty. I never owned a MKV so how was i supposed to know that the release was supposed to be clipped up against the panel. I didnt really pay attention and it happend like a week after i took the car home. The service manager gave me an analogy of, “if a kid drops a penny between the window and door panel of a car door and it hinders or damages the windows ability to roll down, then it can’t be covered by warranty because it wasnt a mechanical defect.”

basically saying that because i didn’t have the latch clipped, then they cant cover with warranty because technically it’s my fault.
