I don’t think $40k is a bad price for the Z, the problem is how ill-equipped it is. If it came with an LSD and reasonable wheels/tires then sure, but as it sits it pretty much forces anyone who cares at all about performance to either dump $5-7k into it immediately, or spring for the performance model for another $10k. If the performance model was $45k it would be a reasonable option, but at $50k PLUS $3k for paint and floor mats you’re at the same price as the 3.0 Supra but with the Z you get much, much less for that money.
The $43.5k 2.0 also comes with an open diff. I think you can get an aftermarket LSD for the 370Z for around $2.5k installed. Yeah, the 3.0 vs 3.0 the Supra is probably the better buy, but we were just talking about the base model.

Are people still on the whole open diff base Z... but zero complaints about the same issue on a more expensive 2.0 Supra. 😂

255 hp with 275 width rear tires vs 400 hp with 245 width rear tires. An open diff is a much bigger problem on one of these than the other.

Most people are just going to daily drive the crap out of both of these things, but if it's such a big problem then it's a good thing the Z is priced way low so people can get some wider rear tires.
