Good tires that’ll hook 700WHP.

A brief counterpoint on R888R:

I think they get too greasy for track use, but I love them for the street. Yes, they're a bit noisy, but I personally feel it's overblown.

Ok on a side note. How do they do in the rain? Asking for a friend…

I've driven them in the rain three times. They suck in standing water. Very unnerving, as they cannot evacuate water very fast. But they're okay in wet roads if you don't drive like a dink. Overall I just take it easy, and it's been okay. I don't think they'd do well in downpour conditions.

But I live in central Texas and it doesn't rain much. When it does, we have pretty significant advance notice and I just stay off the roads because it's a month's worth of rain in 20 minutes.

Would they hook in 2nd gear with 285s on stock rims and 500whp?

Unknown on the Supra, but they hook on my 515WHP Genesis. But I run 305 on that car.

Not a Corvette.
I recently tried out some 275/35/19 Nankang AR1's on oem 19x10 wheels, which are like R888R in that they are stupid loud on the street for no good reason, but offer much more grip than the insanely over rated R888R's.

My car makes 500/500 on E40 and once heated up on track, they have no issue with 3rd gear unless you just monkey the throttle. Second gear at this level needs a drag radial if you just want to mash the throttle.

Example of grip in 3rd on a damp track in 54F ambient temp:
