Hello everyone,

This evening I installed MSS adjustable springs on my Supra. When it came to the rear OEM bottom rubber retainer, I could not get it to fit on the new suspension.

Did those who installed their MSS Springs use this piece or not?

No the bottom rubber on the rear doesn’t get used. Luckily it doesn’t seem to make any noise without it.

You have to pull like crazy and the arm will lower enough.

the spring sits kind of awkwardly but with the car weight it looks perfect.

I helped a friend install and I was tired that day so I brought a spring compressor and it went in 10 seconds

Thanks Gabe, I think I will redo the rears in that case.

Did you end up installing the friction support ring on the fronts? The video I watched did not so I skipped it. I guess it helps with adjustment.

Yes. It has to be installed. You can’t rest metal on metal on the spring.

It’s on my log
So I initially installed it and there was no way to lower the car at all with the added height. Please explain how you were able get the rear lower.

Just took the car for a test drive and I’m debating if I want to even trying putting it in. I didn’t hear any clicks or bad noises on my drive so I’m thinking I’ll just leave it be.

When I initially tried installing with that stop it just would not go in properly. Additionally, it looks like the rear OEM spring is rounded while MSS is flat which makes me think the stop is not required.

are you talking about the polyurethane seat?
if so, then yes.

did the installation instructions come with your springs?
if not, MSS has their installation instruction pdf online.

I’m referring to these rings.

Mine came with a Dropbox link for the install guides and not that you mention it, it states that the lower OE seats will not be re-used.

That answers my initial question but the instructions still do not mention the friction rings. I don’t think it matters since I’ll likely leave the fronts as is.

my spring kit didn't come with those. :dunno:
It's funny because I have spoken with multiple people who have said the same thing and there isn't a single install video that shows them lol. Oh well o_O

Those plastic friction rings typically sit between the metal of the strut and the metal of the spring. This shims the spring off of the metal spring perch, thus preventing from wear and tear on the spring or strut body.

In the case of MSS springs, their design suggests you should have four. One for top of the black spring against the adjustable aluminum spacer, and the bottom of the orange spring against the spacer. Repeat on other side.

These friction rings come in standard sizes and are wear-and-tear items that prevent unfuckable damage to the strut body.

I just installed it in the rear and with the coil overs screwed together at max low. The car is still sitting very high. I see mixed reviews about people installing them without the bottom rubber part and with the factory rubber part what can I do to make it work with the factory piece cause I don’t want it to click and make a bunch of noise when I’m driving daily.
