MST provides this metal piece with their new intake kit. It would seem it’s designed to reuse the stock turbo inlet metal clamp, then attach to their silicone inlet. But there’s no way this makes sense to me, it fits perfectly and the clamp goes on fine, but there’s no way this is air tight.
Does anyone know if this is some optional or weld on piece they included? I’m nervous to remove it and just hose clamp the silicone inlet to the actual turbo also because there is no lip on the stock turbo inlet for the clamped silicone to really grab on to.
Any quick advice would be very much appreciated, mid install here

well the orange gasket technically fits into this metal piece, putting it on again it still feels loose for my liking, no idea if it’s air tight.

Tried removing it and the silicone part technically could fit directly onto the stock turbo plastic inlet. But again, seems odd to clamp silicone onto a plastic piece that has no lip. So I really feel like the metal thing that uses the stock spring clamp is designed to be the way.
Searched YouTube and didn’t see any mention of this piece on the new V3 kit.
MST directions don’t even mention this piece and their pictures are printed from a potato in black and white 5ppi.
If anyone has any input please share

My v3 went straight over the inlet and had no extra coupler. This must be a running change.

Thanks man for the quick reply. I’ll give it a shot and see if there’s any codes for anything, I’m assuming there’s some sort of code for a boost leak.
The other sketchy part to me is that the PCV connection seems like it’s a bit too high. Which would indicate that metal coupler shouldn’t be used.
But you’re saying you clamped the silicone right onto the turbo inlet here even though no lip for the clamp to grab against?

@Funkjaw great thread here:

https://www.supramkv.com/threads/mst-6-intake-installation-and-review.26353/

I noticed your pics didn’t show this metal coupler either. I’m now attempting to leave that part out but for the love of god this breather hose absolutely has no room to connect. If it was less stuff and a few inches longer it would do the trick lol

any suggestions?

I’m about to throw the stock box back on and go home

Thanks for reply, trying that now but been fighting with that breather hose connection.
I don’t see how this thing can physically clip onto the inlet after the mst inlet is on the turbo. There’s no slack and literally no space to even pull it back far enough to clip on maybe if I removed the charge pipe.
And can’t put it on in reverse order with the breather first then try to connect the inlet lol.

first real project on this car and I’m shitting the bed on a simple intake install

The breather is a pain. Most people cut the plastic line and replace it with hose. You can also reshape it with a heat gun. Don't overthink it

shouldn’t be an issue just put onto turbo inlet then clip on the breather. No need to cut or heat. Use a long flat head if needed to help guide it

Thanks all of you who replied. Ended up getting it on though the entire time I was waiting for the hose to snap off of the block. There is really no room where mst placed that port. Anyway the breather now I think is pushed up and rubbing the charge pipe. But I guess it’s on will just have to keep an eye on it.
Smart move would be to extend that hose maybe in the future.
I hear you on the heat gun that may help deform the plastic.
As for the “extra” coupler that uses the stock gasket, that’s actually a good thing if they meant to include or design it that way. Same way the stock one seals. Problem is the breather was no way in hell going on with that extra couple inches from the coupler.

the whole reason I went with mst V3 I figured after a third revision everything fits perfectly by now. Not really a fan of janky force to fit setups.
Otherwise, it’s a very nicely made kit.
Didn’t even get to drive to hear the car when I finished up because one of these little temp sensor screws is missing.

thanks again

I can’t justify spending that much on a noise maker, but apparently it’s worth the price for the fitment lol

edit: forgot to add I plan to go top mount or at least pure 900 in another year after 2 years of ownership is out of the way awaiting any sort of crazy warranty issues that pop up.
So my thought on this one is some sound enjoyment in the mean time without breaking the bank
