module / adapter is the same thing.

you would purchase the OBDLink CX or MX+ from Amazon or OBDLink and then download the BimmerCode app for your phone.

Thx for all the info on this, question, can u leave module plugged into vehicle?,
Will it cause any issues? Or can u just remove it after u shut off vehicle?

The reason for the module is to provide a Bluetooth connection to the OBD port. If you're not actively using it, it serves no purpose and can be removed.
