Short answer is the b58 FI torque. It is all instant and available
Compare torque curves and you will see visually.

My supra is seconds a lap faster on the VA tracks I run with c8s and equal to a good driver in A c7 z06. The c7 ZR1 is the one car I have no answer for. IMHO it is basically the pinnacle of front engine rear wheel drive.

I will be interested in follow ups from AHP and his track experience.
A lot of my friends w c8s do NOT like them that track often. They go through brakes and tires like crazy and the brake by wire is garbage. They all LOVE them on the street but we have several that now leave them home and drive other things on the track.
Thanks and was expecting torque to be a big part. The low end grunt is insane! Coming from a S2K where you rev the crap out of her and need that VTEC, I’m nowhere near redline in this car on track. The c7 guy said he overheats in summer. But to Chevy’s credit, they are going to buy him a bigger radiator. I’m not going to push the Supra past April down here. But again, starting to believe the baby Yaga videos are real!

Consumables are where I’m really impressed. With a square setup, my Maxxis tires are cheap, the Hawks pads seem to last forever, and I just bought affordable rotors on Amazon. So yeah, happy as a pig in shit with this platform so far. Was curious about the C8 consumables. So thatā€˜s good to know. And I know my Porsche friends pay a pretty penny every time they go out on track.

Not everyone cares about that however. A friend I went to college with ordered two new Z06s just to track. They are cheaper than the Ferraris he was tracking. So it’s all about personal perspective for sure.

c7 overheating is a known issue. If you are going to track one hard there are well known paths to solve.

speaking of consumables and corvettes... go on Tire rack and put in a c8 as you r car and look for options.

short answer there are only a couple options suited for the track. Then it is 2500-3000 each set and like i said man do they go through tires. So every other or third track weekend you are -3k just for rubber.

We have probably 6 members w c8s at my home track.

one sold and went back to c7 GS
one now only drives to the track and drives a BMW track car.
another is selling (doesnt like it) and drives his GT3 or track nissan LS swap240

another has tons of FU money but still complains about it
etc etc

If I went GM i would 100% go 1LE route for the track.

I bought the C7 Z06 specifically because I wanted a manual trans car for the track, and wanted to try something different vs my previous C6 ZR1. The manuals do not have the overheating issues that the autos are notorious for. I also specifically went with a '19 because it has all of the latest enhancements from the ZR1 development. Though '17 and up would have been sufficient for me.

I run with a bunch of ZL1s are they are incredible cars, but I just don't like anything about the Camaro platform aesthetics other than the sheer performance. Consumables are just as bad if not worse than the Z06 due to the weight.

Anyhey... Back to the C8

The stock wheel/tire sizing is indeed sub optimal for tire availability and the car needs more front end grip either way. A 245 on the front is a joke, IMO. No one that plans on tracking the car more than 1-2x a year is going to stick with the stock wheels (unless running Hoosiers - which I have seen), though I will say the OEM PS4 did surprisingly well all things considered, and they wear like iron. Downsizing to the 18/19 setup opened up a broad range of tire availability; full sets are now around $1600-$2000 for 200TW. I went with 275/35/18, 325/30/19 which really transformed the car on the street so really stoked to get it back on track. Unfortunately VIR changed their convertible policy for 2023 (despite NASA recognizing the HTC factory rollover protection) so I'll have the C7 there in Feb. Still waiting on CMP's 2023 schedule.

RE: brakes -- I've heard all of the complaints but happy to report they performed flawlessly for me at CMP, which is notoriously hard on brakes. The pedal feel and braking was incredibly consistent and powerful from start to end. My issue is I was consistently over-braking since the Supra requires 2-3x more pedal pressure to achieve the same amount of stopping power. The mid engine also requires a different corner approach which I'm still sorting out. Switching back and forth was a real eye opener! The only downside thus far is I did burn through a set of OEM pads in 2 days. Luckily I found a local source for OEM take-offs at $200/set so I'm good for several weekends and will reevaluate once my experience in the car progresses. The advice I was given by more than one C8 track rat was to stick with the OEM pads.

The other thing I wanted to mention because it's something I've quickly learned to appreciate is the throttle/TQ response. On track TQ is incredibly flat, instantaneous and predictable -- every bit if pedal travel results in a commensurate change in TQ delivery. You can modulate power almost electric-motor-like! Conversely the Supra is effectively an on/off switch with 80% of the power in the first 20% of the pedal.

I'll update as my C8 track experience progresses. I certainly didn't buy it as a 'track car' but so far I am really enjoying it on track and everywhere else.

You are always welcome to bring your c8 to Dominion!
My first VIR is March

I am glad people are tracking c8s
I think they are super impressive and hats off to GM for making the mid engine sports car
I think you kinda have to use oem pads. The computer throws errors if parameters are off w ā€œspecialā€ brakes Friend tried an aggressive compound and the computer wasn’t having it.
My issue- nit picky- w c8 brakes are brake by wire. And yes consistent. That’s what the computer giveyou. But there is no way to tell if you are at threshold of over braking or over heating them. All they do is go into limp.

glad the tire options are increasing.
The c7 z06 and zr1 are going to legendary and collectible for a reason.
Rock on

Thanks for the detailed info! Came from a S2K and MX5. Both relatively affordable to track and tons of part options. I do like how we have lots of track options for this Supra as well. I’m afraid the C8 would price me out of my personal fun $$$ factor. But that’s just me. So again, thx for sharing!

And… most peeps aren’t going to track the ? out of their cars like @Rocksandblues and I. Still lots of beautiful HP and car for the money. Assuming you can find them at MSRP out there. Hopefully the market will improve this year.

I'd love to get up to Dominion some time this year!

One of the C8s I run with swears by the Hawk DTC pads and has never had any issues. My other acquaintance tried a few Carbotech options and eventually went back to the stock pads. His feedback was he would get 'brake over temp' warnings mid-way through a session but aside from the annoying error popping up they still performed fine. Never ran into a limp mode scenario. However, he complained the Carbotechs didn't last any longer than the OEMs, which mostly defeated the purpose. The OEM compound works really well but there's just not a lot of surface area to work with so life is pitifully short and the dusting is horrendous.

I'm excited to get more seat time in the car, especially with the wider, softer tires. The factory 245s were really easy to lock up and the artificially-soft pedal feel resulted in me wayyyyy over braking. I have 3 full sets of OEM take offs that will last me 6ish days and then I'll reevaluate. I'll be in the C8 at CMP on 2/24, 3/10 and 3/24.

Saw this article this AM. You beat me to it, lol. How much more weight does it add from the current version? I saw an estimate of 4000lbs. Just thinking track… That instant battery torque would be so much fun!!

I miss my RX-8 too ?

Once they get these weights down on these batteries, they will be so bad ass! My wife still wants American muscle (besides me ?). So I know this will happen someday soon for her… probably the last ICE Mustang or Vette. Hell, she even dragged me over to this guy on the track to checkout his car:

Have to admit, it was pretty sweet. Really cool owner too!

RE: E-ray -- MT's weight numbers don't jive with what I would consider a mildly more credible source, which has them at more palatable:

3,774 coupe
3,856 HTC

I am not a fan of the body-colored accents but that's a trivial fix. What a time to be alive when it and the Z06 become reasonably attainable!

thanks dude on the left for fucking up my ears with your laughter. totally masked the sounds.
Anyhow, it's such a fake sound, I hate it. maybe better in real life..
I do love Hellcat/Demon SC sounds

For sure, when I think of TC, I think of A80 Supra, then the word squirrel mincer comes to my mind:
