oh hey it's that guy from the country i hadn't heard of! :)

in the dry, you'll gain a significant amount of understeer. in the wet, you'll have TONS of oversteer. your driving will have to adjust to the point you might not enjoy the car anymore lol. better off grabbing all four
Thanks for the feedback, wet won't be a problem, it's tucked away then.;) But why do you think the understeer will be any worse than with a matching set? In reality I only push on climbs, coming from motorbikes I never like the feel of loading the front downhill anyway.

i'm not fully understanding the question but if i say "the difference in grip", does that answer it?

i've driven an SS 1LE on the stock Supercar 3s and another on PS4S. HUGE difference in grip

I get that, but given how quickly the rears have worn adding a gripier rear tyre might just as well improve the overall balance. Surely it's not a given that it will make the car worse. Of course you may be right and it may well push things too far and provoke unacceptable levels of understeer.

So I had a long chat with my tyre guy, he recommended the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 over the Supersport. His take on mixing the tyres was try it, it might be a step up from what I have now overall but less than if I went for all four, but I wouldn't know until I change the fronts next time anyway. On the other hand it might be awful in which cases he can fit the fronts next day to match. Seems kind of obvious really.

So here's the story, I decided to just give changing the rears a go, out of curiosity as much as anything, after all how bad could it be? The answer, unimaginably bad, almost undrivable at speed. On long motorway curves even at legal speeds the stability control was chiming in and applying the brakes it was that bad.

So I changed the fronts as well and what a revelation. The PSS were terrible before they were warmed up, on a nice road with traffic they would never get warm enough to enjoy even if you found a gap. But the Eagle F1's are great from almost cold, you can lean on them immediately and they just keep getting better, the Supra now feels much more like the Cayman S I had before.

The other major difference is overtaking in and out of gaps when quick direction changes are needed, it was terrible before but now it's more like my other ride, a Yaris GR. How different the ultimate grip at a track would be I don't know but for the road these tyres are a major improvement.

Solidifying what Rupert just said. I just swapped my rears because of wear and wanted to try the NT555 out. I still have my Michelins up front. DO NOT mix tires. I can barely go 65 now on long turning exit ramps without the diff freaking out and flashing like a disco on me. I'm about to swap my fronts to match up the rears but am kicking myself because Im not really liking the NT555s.

It's night and day between before and after changing the fronts so you might be pleasantly surprised afterwards.

I was shocked at how bad it was, just shows what a balck art tyre compund is and how much difference it makes to the feel of a car.

I've known several people that run a different tire in the rear with no issues, not sure what the problems are about.

Did you read the thread? At least two of us have actually tried it and it turned a fine handling car into an almost undriveable beast. When the matching fronts were added it once again became great. Perhaps the people you talk about were not doing it on a Supra or other asymetric car, perhaps they simply had tyres close enough? Either way give it a go if you must but be prepared for the worst.
