Pallavicini SeaSucker ski rack?

I saw some posts with the standard SeaSucker rack, has anyone tried this Pallavicini model on the rear window? I am worried about scratching on the roof from the standard mount. I don't plan to take the car to the actual slopes but I need a solution to get my skis to my buddy's house who has the truck to take us ?. Thoughts? I also see that Elan is now making foldable skis so I guess that's also an option. Pricey though.
