Long story short - in a parking lot for meeting, after meeting my client leaves first and scrapes my front bumper with his dodge truck (I try never to park next to people but it couldn't be avoided today). so my 6 month old car needs a new bumper. visiting a local bodyshop tomorrow (and then my PFF shop), pre-approved with insurance, etc. anyone have recent experience with something similar? how long does a bumper take to get ordered, is there any complications that I should know about that I'm not thinking about?

the damage does appear limited to the bumper and the proximity sensor (which goes off while driving which is terrible). doesn't appear the wheel was hit, and all the lights are working. any recent experiences appreciated.

The only issue you MAY have is with the tooling to calibrate the radar sensor. Personally I don't think it's actually absolutely necessary unless you get a code after the new clip is fitted but you know how it is these days with insurance companies and repairers not wanting litigation issues.
People have had this issue here in the past. Not sure if it's still a "thing" though.

It’s not a difficult or long repair. Same thing happened to me except it was my wife that hit mine. Same spot as yours too. When calling our insurance agent she described it as one dumbass, two claims. She forgot I was next to her and you can’t see our cars from higher SUVs and trucks. I’m surprised this doesn’t happen to lower and smaller cars all the time now that so many people (my wife included) think it’s absolutely mandatory to drive these big ass trucks and SUVs…

Below is what Phil is remembering about recalibration but that ended up not being a big deal either.

It didn’t take long at all to get the parts. Just a few days. Also, I originally thought they refinished and resprayed my bumper cover but it was actually a new one.

thanks for the insight giving me a bit more hope that this will go smoother than I am anticipating

the big truck issue is not a joke The client that hit me said he couldn't even see the Supra's roofline from his side-window unless he craned his neck typical lifted dodge 2500 and it was the giant step/running board that caused the damage - good news I guess is without them his rear wheel would have done a lot more damage

Another quick item. Be sure to file a diminished value claim since it was the other persons fault and insurance that is paying. Unfortunately, our cars will now have an “accident” on carfax which will make selling later more challenging and likely have to take a lower price. If you’ve never heard of this before simply do some google research. It’s actually pretty easy and straightforward but no insurance company will ever voluntarily disclose that you can do this. It’s up to you to initiate it. A couple years ago my daughters F150 was hit and I was able to easily negotiate a $5500 diminished value payment from the other drivers insurance company (Erie). I had a diminished value appraisal done and they did as well. We basically split the difference between what mine said and what theirs said.
