Resolved - How to remove rear brake piston seal

How do you remove the rear brake piston seal? Tore it doing brake/rotor change. Piston came out completely.

I have to source a replacement but I cannot seem to get what’s left of the seal off the caliper.

Totally different. I ordered part from Toyota and it’ll be here Monday. But I cannot figure out how to get this one off.

Once again I’m in over my head. Never seem to learn.

You pop that whole black thing off. You have to pry it off as it has a metal ring.

I've tried using a pick tool, will need to try a small flathead screwdriver I think... If I understand correctly, i need to pry what is remaining of the boot, which is held on by a hidden metal ring, off the cylinder part of the caliper. So the yellow part in that last photo from the tech manual, is hiding a metal ring where the #2 is pointing.

If so, I am so far not seeing a way to get to it, hence moving on to a small screwdriver.

It looks like the seal is pressed onto the caliper housing. This is quite common. The rubber seal has a metal ring built into it so that it can be pressed onto the caliper housing. Looks like it needs to be pryed off wih a screw driver. If you're not sure wait until the new seal arrives and you will have a better understanding of how it's made and how it's secured to the caliper housing. Good luck!

Got it off! Thank all for the tips! Small flathead screwdriver gave me enough leverage to pry it off, and yes, there is a metal band/clip embedded in the rubber.

New boot should be in my hands tomorrow, so I'll be back in business soon. No more doom and gloom.

Piston back in. New seal is on just not fully seated. I continue to work it and will get it on. Should be back on the car and bled Saturday morning.
