If your entire point revolves around "but you can just pay more money to mod a car after you buy it, just to get it to a level it should have been from the factory," it's a pretty shit point.
Yeah, a pos civic can be "tunned and modded to unlock it's potential."
Why the fuck should I spend a dime more on a high 50k car, just to get make sure a 370z doesn't make me look stupid on the track? The answer is I shouldn't. No one should. This new Supra is pathetic.
When all the reviews have been lukewarm, when Toyota is actually saying "don't look at the numbers, how does it make you feel, " and most fucking damning of all... When Toyota has said they can't wait to see someone swap a 2jz into this new car... They have a massive fucking failure on their hands.
This car is gonna flop. All these reviews have confirmed it.

I don’t want to start a flame war, but this was the German “my way or the highway” mentality that I was telling everyone wayyy back. No on believed me. Did anyone actually believe that BMW was going to have the “less performing” car to a Toyota??? For everyone that said “if anything, Toyota’s input helped make the BMW motor better”....Toyota got the “left overs” of this project. What did you expect....surf & turf on a McDonald’s budget?
Most of you are right, we still have a year to see what happens. However, for Toyota to put out a “base” car that’s underpowered and not up to par with a Z4 in front of the mainstream media is a public massacre for their car. Again, going back to what I said wayyy back about why their top trim model should be presented first or alongside the release. The logical move would have been to give the journalists the best version to review on. The media is different now....it’s very powerful on the internet.
How will Toyota make a more powerful car with manual transmission and so forth, if they won’t move this car as is??? Right?

The mkiv Supra held the production car 100-0 braking record for years. It really was a world class car.
I mentioned it another thread, but I've also owned a 355 and 911 turbo (and 928 S4) from the same era. Yes, a stock mkiv measured up. It's just that very few stayed stock
Ferraris and Porsches in the 90s weren't what they are today by any means. The mkiv was also 50% more than a Corvette at the time. The price and performance target were high.

I know this is going to come as a complete surprise to you, but most drivers are not going to track this car. Not everyone needs 500 hp to get their dick hard when driving a car. If you're going to spend 50k for this car, I doubt a few more grand to up the power is going to hurt you much in the pocket.

Then go buy a miata.
If I'm spending high 50s, performance will be on par with cars in the high 50s. This car is barely half a step above a 370z, all the reviews have confirmed this. Everything else in the 50k bracket smokes the shit out of this car on the track (where this car was supposedly tuned for) and on the streets.

Benchmarked during early design != Actual performance.
I suggest you go read any of the dozen articles in the OP. Actual performance is pathetic for a 50k car.

No, it's a dozen reviews. All of them tepid to lukewarm.
Toyota themselves are already pushing the line, "don't look at the specs." Straight from the horses mouth.
Toyota should be fucking BRAGGING about the specs and performance. Instead they are saying please ignore them. Please swap a 2jz in. They are actually on the record as having said they want people to swap the 2jz in... Wow, that's a pathetic testimony as to how much of a turd this car is.
