Is this why I'm getting checking if the site connection is secure messages? Half the time it works. The other times I get dns errors and something about being on some cloud??

DNS errors are likely residual from whatever the server maintenance was earlier. CloudFlare's cache is quite large, and (hopefully) obviously distributed.
