Since the score is computed using the last 45 days of sales and they’ve been blowing them out, this should increase, but it will be interesting to see how this impacts negotiating a good deal.

I'm not familiar with this channel or the term MDS. Is the higher the number reflect the amount of inventory available? So the lower the number the less negotiating you have? Or do I have this all turned around?

You’ve got it.

So basically the older guy on the channel used to run a dealership. He says that MDS is how they manage inventory. It’s computed based on the previous 45 days of sales. They generally like to keep ~90 days of inventory on hand according to him (or at least know they’ve got stuff inbound).

Anyhow, a car with a low MDS like the C8 in the mid 20s only has a few weeks of inventory at the current rate (nationally).

If a dealer knows his cars won’t last and he won’t have stuff to sell, he’ll attempt to maximize his profits on each vehicle vs blowing them out.

Right now, the MDS on a lot of popular Toyota vehicles is very low. Overall, dealers are struggling to keep enough cars on their lots.
