Hello! I am the owner of a car service specialized in mechanics, I work on all car brands but especially BMW. I also own a Supra that I would not buy if it were not made by BMW. At about 50,000km I did several works on the Supra and I am delighted with the new behavior of the car. On the front axle I changed the upper strut mount kit and front arm bushings , those that are hydrobearig .

I noticed when I tightened or loosened the wheel bolts, they moved very easily forward and backward. When I looked at them, they seemed ok, as did the upper strut mount. Only after disassembly could I see that they had cracks in the rubber. The upper strut mount I put original BMW or Toyota ones and the arm bushings are Meyle HD (code 314.610.0044HD ) which are made of solid rubber, the wheels no longer move and the car is much more stable and the steering more precise.

At the back, at the differential, I changed the 3 differential bushings but only the rear one is broken, being a hydrobearing, you can't even see that it's broken, if you look at it, it looks fine. I installed a more solid one that can be installed on BMW M2,3,4 but also on normal BMWs from BMW 316d to M340i. Its code is 33316899168. At the cardan, I changed the intermediate bearing, which had quite a torn rubber and the elastic flange towards the back was completely destroyed. The same was true of the engine mount on the left side, you can see when they are no longer good because you can see that red oil has flowed from them, but you don't see them until you take the aluminum shield off. Of course, they are changed in pairs even if the one on the right is not broken.

When the car had 12,300 km I changed the differential oil and it was very black and had fine filings. This is normal because it has some clutches that work by friction and get very hot, degrading the oil and the friction also produces a lot of filings.

Almost all the parts changed on my car should be changed at 40-50,000km maximum on all Toyota Supra MK5, this is how it breaks down on BMW diesels that have high torque and on 3.0L petrol ones. Differential oil at a maximum of 12-15,000km. This is of course valid for cars that are driven sporty. I go on Transfagarasan or Transalpina once every 2 weeks, I drive normally until there but when I get there I drive at the maximum capacity of the car! On sport+ and Traction mode. I drive on auto but use the downshift paddle on curves. The rear tires last a maximum of 4000 km. So with this exploitation it is normal for these parts to wear out. The car is stock, it has no tuning of any kind except for a few upgrades.

When I had OPF, I used Mobil1 0W40 ESP X3 because it is compatible with OPF, it is used in all Porsches with OPF, both normal and high-performance 911 Turbo S, GT3, GT3 RS, so it is a super oil, I used it for about 30,000km in very harsh operating conditions and it is ok. Since 2025, ESP X3 no longer exists, it is replaced by X4, but Porsche now uses the new racing oil Mobil1 0W40 C40 GT. Now I have canceled OPF and I can use an even more racing oil that is not compatible with OPF, I use Shell Helix Ultra 5W40 RACING which is the official Ferrari oil, it has the Ferrari logo on it, which is a big deal, it is approved by Ferrari and is used by the most high-performance Ferraris, including the SF 90 xx which has 1030 HP with the hybrid system, so for the Supra it is more than necessary. Neither Mobil nor the Shell I told you about have prohibitive prices. I change the engine oil every 2-3000km, the gearbox every 50,000km (ZF lifeguard 8 oil), the differential every 12-15,000km, the spark plugs every 20,000km. Never use what they recommend 0W20.

Changing engine oil every 1800 miles is an absolute waste of money and super wasteful overall. It's not 1994 anymore.

Also, you have no idea the beast you unleashed with the keywords 5w40.
The 3000km engine oil change interval and the 5w40 viscosity are for those who use the car for recreational purposes, many drive them on the circuit and almost all of the 3000km are done with the engine revving close to 7000rpm, often the ambient temperature being 35-40 degrees Celsius because you can't run these cars in the cold when you have no grip and end up straight in the ditch. You should know that those who use them in professional racing, drifting, etc., who have large turbines and internal modifications often use 10W60, 15W50. Are they stupid for doing this?

Please, tell me more about these people using these cars with much more power, larger turbines, and on circuits. Are you one of these people?
