Would one have benefit over the other?

Titanium Turbo Blanket :

  • Volcanic lava rock and titanium outer layer with high-silica and stainless-steel inner layer for optimal heat protection
  • Stainless-steel fastening buttons resist corrosion
Versus Turbo Heat Shield:

The heatshield is produced from 2.0mm thick stainless steel sheet metal which is CNC laser cut, CNC bent, and then finished in high-temp Cerakote.

It seams the blanket would benifit more by keeping the heat at the turbo vs the metal shield just kinda soaking up the heat then slowly dispersing it.

I am on the stock turbo, but have been eyeing the pure800. The tuning issue is holding me back a bit. I know that the Versus shield is a smooth fit over the turbo however it just seems like there would be more benefit of having the blanket to contain the excess temps.

I have no experience with blankets on the Supra, but I had a GT3076R on my STi and tried a blanket like that for a while. The blanket kept the turbo so hot that it would cook through and crack the turbo coolant lines after about 2 weeks. I replaced the coolant lines probably 3-4x before I finally pulled the blanket off, when I did that they never cracked again. The lines weren't under the blanket, they were outside of it, so the heat was either conducting through the turbo casing, or the turbo was super-heating the coolant to the point that it was destroying the hoses.

Take from that what you will, but I won't be running a blanket on the Supra.

The way it was explained to me was this....
Blankets are for cold weather and heat shields are for hot weather.

Blankets keep the heat in the turbo so it functions correctly in the colder climates (originally a diesel thing) and the heat shields keep the turbo from heating up the engine bay in hotter climates.
