Hi Supra owners - can I ask for some help please?

I've got an issue where I get a weird judder or vibrating movement through the steering wheel when turning right on a bumpy/uneven road. Steering wheel at 90 degrees to the right.

I'm sure it's not normal, almost feels like the steering wheel is moving forward and backwards. It only happens in this exact scenario, otherwise all feels perfect.

Had it looked at by a specialist and dealer, no luck finding the issue. Any ideas or similar issues? Cheers!

Does it do that on a smooth road?

Not sure what kind of specialist you used but normally a good alignment shop will go out with you to feel the issue and troubleshoot.

and if it’s still under warranty the dealer should fix it whether they can find it or not.

I get that but shops I’ve gone too seem to know a lot about the steering systems too and loose crap in the suspension can cause steering vibrations.

i dont think he mentioned anything about alignment

I'm sure I've felt it but perhaps less reliably? Definitely happens more obviously when the suspension is dealing with bumps in the road.

Maybe you're right and I need a good shop, they did road test it but couldn't narrow it down - essentially said wait til it gets worse or just try replacing parts.

If it gets to replacing parts I was thinking of trying tie rod ends > front control arm bushes > strut top mounts.

Hi mate, not lowered just all stock atm and just hit 28k on 2020 car. I replaced the tyres as I thought that might be causing it but unfortunately it's the same.

Thanks :)

Some of the race guys may chime in too but my thoughts having spent some time under BMWs for the last 25 years. :)

Do you get similar behavior turning left?

At 28k miles, there isn't too much that can be worn out on the car yet. What I have noticed is that the Supra and other BMWs since 2010ish have changed suspension parts and geometry and the nature of how they work.

I think what you are feeling is the pronounced tilt of the wheel/tire (at 90 degrees, the tire contact patch isn't like at 0) the roughness of the road, a very stiff stock suspension, and maybe a little bit of the EPS system trying to filter it.

I ask if this does this on the left side too as that may confirm my suspicion this might be "normal".

Unless of course, over the same road it was "fine" a few weeks ago and this is recent.

Thanks mate, I haven't noticed it turning left - lots of roundabouts over here so tends to be longer (relatively) right turns when it happens.

I think the dealer tech agreed with you, he thought it was something to do with EPS. They updated the software apparently in case there was a problem/update.

I did think wear was unlikely but the roads where I live are kind of terrible, and it's had some hits from pot holes - so was thinking some damage could have caused it.

The fact that it's kind of intermittent and can't reproduce it reliably all the time makes me think it could be some normal quirk though - it just feels so strange and I would have thought others online might have felt the same thing if it was!

Appreciate you taking the time to help out :)
