Hi All, I was getting a sonar electric sound beeping on a cold start and it would go away when the engine temperate reached normal. Gave the car into the garage and there were no faults stored or the engine management light before this. The garage carried out their investigations and found the vanos solenoid apart number 11367614288 needing replaced which they done and then carried out the ISTA teach process for the new vanos solenoid. Drove the car away and the next morning on a cold start, the engine started to judder(felt like it was going to cut out) when the revs dropped down (600-700rpm)on idle and automatically the car increased to 800-900rpm. Waited for the car to heat up and drove off. The next day, I experienced the same and then the engine management light came on when I drove for 30secs. Took it back to the garage and they advised to change the engine oil and oil filter(geniune BMW parts used ). Carried out the reset on the ISTA (vanos adapations and cleared the fault codes). The codes have re-appeared with the engine management light on
130713 vanos solenoid valve , inlet position not reached
130715 vanos solenoid valve inlet camshaft jammed

It's not a big problem with the engine, but a couple people have experienced this situation. If I had a guess the bolt will need replaced. Hopefully it's not something else.

I've got the same problem and the garage put a new accuator in the inlet side and then the EML came on during a cold start. I didn't have the EML on before it went in. All I was getting was a strange beeping noise on a cold start and it was getting louder like a sonar. Also out in fresh engine oil and oil filter. Problem still exists then swapped the accuators over and code is still on the inlet. So it is the vanos central valve on the inlet. The garage has suggested to do another engine oil but this time use a flush. Will that make much of a difference?

I'm not a toyota tech or bmw tech, but if you got the oil changed by them I would think they would have put the correct oil in that time. If you are still getting that code and you swapped actuators I would think its something inside that intake vanos mechanism. People have said the bolt fixed there issue. You could try another oil change just to appease your tech, but I'm leaning toward intake vanos bolt or something else inside it.

Thanks for the reply. The garage did use the right genuine oil grade but at that time didn't recommend the flush. The car has only covered 34k and the last oil change was at 30k in August. Now they have suggested to use the flush incase there is any oil blockage / build up in the intake central valve

Another Issue I have is that the car is out of warranty.
