It only started today on the way back from the gym.
when driving my car makes a sort of high pitched noise on the back right wheel. It sort of sounds like something is lightly grinding on my rotor.
I checked the rotor and brake pads and all is fine.
When I brake, the sound is louder and I can sometimes hear a “swoosh” noise as if liquid is moving around.

I've read several posts of people getting a small pebble stuck between the disc and the backing plate. Any chance this could be it?

The swoosh noise I'm at a loss. Do you have a vid you can post with the sounds?

I’ll try to get a vid. Hard to do so as I drive though

I live on a pretty crappy crush-n-run street that has to be constantly filled with loose gravel bits every time it rains hard. Every single time this happens, the first time I drive the Supra on that road a pebble gets sucked through the brake ducting and into either the dust shield or the rotor area and makes a horrendous screeching sound until it eventually pops out. This is probably the cause of that issue, at least I seriously hope so for your sake. As for the swooshing sound, I have literally no idea unless you have a water leak somewhere and perhaps there's water in the trunk under the floor mat and you're hearing it slosh around under hard braking?

It did just rain Athena past few days and the streets in stl are shit. I can hear loose gravel a lot. Can I fix this without a jack?

Not on the supra, but I have had luck poking a long screw driver in to push the backing plate back and let the rock fall out.

How long did you drive around hearing the sound? Usually in my experience I have to drive no more than 5 to 10 minutes for the pebble to pop out, but I usually always make sure to accelerate pretty hard from a stop or from a decent 40 to 60 roll, this is usually when it pops out. As for trying to fix it yourself, if it is indeed just a pebble or gravel bit, you could try to poke your head under the car and look into the wheel hub/rotor/brake-dust shield area and see if you can spot anything. Probably won't be able to achieve much without jacking it up and taking the wheel off though. As for the potential water noise, I would 100% take the rear trunk mat out and check for water.

I was driving for 15 minutes.
I started the car back up and did a few hard stops and it resolved itself.
Thanks all! Would have never expected a pebble to be so loud.

It was a pebble that I drove out after some hard stops. I don’t hear the swoosh. It could have just been the gas tank

This was a big issue for a lot of the BMW M3's (F80 gen). Apparently, the best way to fix it for good is to just get in there for each wheel and push out the rotor backing plate/dust cover.
