Just read through your build thread. It all makes sense now, glad your engine still looks pristineProbably not much more, I'm on the edge of what the trans can handle already.
I’ve heard of some people trying to run G82/80 transmission on these cars. But trouble getting the tcu to run with the car I heard was an issue if I remember. Can maybe find a used one for sale or maybe one from a crashed car?Probably not much more, I'm on the edge of what the trans can handle already.
I heard it also doesn't shift as fast. If I do end up needing a trans I will just send it to ATS for a stage 1 most likely.I’ve heard of some people trying to run G82/80 transmission on these cars. Oh interesting. I’ve heard good things about Brian from ATS.I heard it also doesn't shift as fast. If I do end up needing a trans I will just send it to ATS for a stage 1 most likely.
Great explanation! Car looks fantastic btw. I really hope you track her someday ?. Price and ability to rotate was my main concerns for tracking. My non track months, I go back to the OEM wheels. They look good powder coated (or Hyperdiped in my case) compared to the fugly chrome they came with back in 2022, imo. But when driving in town on the 19s, I can’t get that hard OEM rubber to wear down ?. Someday I’ll be able to shop for better grocery getting grip. Here are my personal reasons:
- Saved total unsprung weight
- Every 10lbs of unsprung weight is calculated to shave .10 off your quarter mile.
- Fuel mileage is increased even at the same rotational diameter simply because the weight is lower (lower rotational inertia)
- Cheaper tires
- 18" tires are signifacantly cheaper than their 19" counter part

- Square setup means easily rotatable tires
Of course, there are negatives as well
- Rim warranty from factory doesn't apply if you hit a nasty pothole
- This applies to switching to any rim other than OEM
- Limited to manufacturer warranty
- Apex may or may not be a shitty company
- Might not look as good to certain audiences
- I've always had an anti-stance, function over form perspective but not everyone agrees.
What do you think you'll replace the OEM's with?Great explanation! Car looks fantastic btw. I really hope you track her someday ?. Price and ability to rotate was my main concerns for tracking. Have you driven the 3 Twisted Sisters?God I wish we had roads like that in Texas.
I just drove a road called "Devils Backbone" today in my Supra.. more like "Devils Limpdick".. so boring. I think it's time to move (as much as I love Texas).
Yeah I think I will. Even my street build should be a ton of fun. The new EC02s seem very capable as I've already set some PBs in turns I take every day simply from the raw coefficient of friction being better vs the stock PSS. For instance no longer having to lift off to avoid slip angle on long sweepers, stuff like that. If you ever wonder your way out to Austin, TX please let me know.Great explanation!
